Well, I am posting this to see what u guys think. I'm 31 now and have a kid and when I drive my car around it gets so much attention it makes me feel like its too flashy for me. Don't get me wrong now...I love the car and it's sooo much fun but I just feel like when my kid jumps out of the back people look at me like "holy cow a little kid just rode in that!" I own a house and have a family now I should just get a normal car and stop with having a daily and having a garage queen that my kid thinks is a waaaaaa zoooooom car. I'm selling the whole swap and putting back to na to sell off everything at a more reasonable price. It will be a sad day when it druves away but I'm sure it will make someone super happy.

Update: here is the direct link to car profile

What swap? Might not even be worth it to swap it back.

I feel the same with my rx7 and I'm only 26. Would be suprised if I own it for another 2 years.

While not married nor do i have any kids at 37 and i have 3 Celicas and a 95 mr2
but one thing i will never do is worry about being too flashy or feel i have to
drive a "normal" car to appease the neighbors. If selling makes sense for your
family then do it..

I have many friends in 40's who own high hp Toyota's,have kids, house etc and most
would regret selling so they don't. None worry about what other people think and
drive them for pure enjoyment. I will always like being the guy who is not a clone of everyone
else on block driving a Camry ,Accord or Sonata.

Is not just the looks. I like being different but I don't want to be singled out everywhere either. There are other factors too. I live on a big hill and I have a 330 foot long stone driveway the celica is not happy going up. And having a car I drive less than 3000 miles a year is fun but not practical. I also kinda need a truck or suv vehicle for hauling items. I borrow a truck every other week it seems. While I do love the car, i think to myself a nice 4 door Tacoma with a set of rims might be all I need? Maybe? I'm Going to post a topic in the for sale area and see what happens. I won't be giving this away the point is to make money back and be able to get funds for a truck to avoid having a payment. If its not going to work out I will keep it and just start driving it more often so I don't feel it is a waste sitting in the garage.

^^^ i bought a fj cruiser and a trailer for that. but the fun starts with my celicas. Sometimes trucks are not the best options. you loose trunk space. If you haul small stuff a 6 x 8 trailer is all u need... just saying...

get a car that can haul a trailer.

The celica is rated to tow 2000 lbs. and what kinda hill u live on? a swapped celi should have no issues with that. hell my ST doesnt have an issue with hills under 30 mph haha

The celica likes to spit and spray stones everywhere on my driveway. It's hard to not spin wheel going up my driveway unless you have an awd vehicle cause the stones are just laying loose and roll easily. It's just gravel! There is no way I would use this car to tow something. Maybe I should post pics up from my profile so you guys better understand.

i use mine to tow, and its an auto ST. i pulled my project car 300 miles with it, and a 4x8 ft trailer loaded with steel 30 or so miles.

I am 31 too I got old and bought an infiniti sedan at 26. But you know what? I end up buying another celi. You will regrete it sooner or later. I would think this one over. Perhaps just change the look of the car a bit make it a more grown up car.

One of the reasons I sold my last 6gc was this. Now I got a more subtle plain looking one and like it more.

ok, i had not seen your car until now..

Im not a fan of the veilside. Why not turn your car into a sleeper.

i guess if you are starting to dislike the color, maybe too flashy. IMO its good looking, but maybe a more subtle appearance package..

Spoilerless, single tone, instead of dual tone.

i know that feeling its temporary and then after you will start to freak out that you want another car that makes you happy again.....

i got married last year, the day i got married i switched my rx8 r3 for my VW CC, although i added wheels suspension etc im always wishing i hadn't gotten rid of my car. and now im like a weirdo on the computer waiting for an opportunity to get another sports car.

I remember this car from when it was featured ride years ago, veilside was the rage then, and still is some places.
I am almost 45, and I have a garage queen, hell it doesn't even go waaazooom yet. I get annoyed almost everytime
I take my car out of the garage, I am afraid to leave it anywhere unattended as it seems to be a magnet for A holes.
I have thought of selling mine a few times but realize how much I am going to lose, and how much work I have put into it
(minimal compared to you and some others). I just let mine sit, start it every now and then pull it out of the garage to wash it.
I can imagine it isn't much fun to drive up a gravel driveway, but if you look at what you have into it and what you will get selling it
you could probably pave your driveway with the difference.

I understand the want for being less flashy and stuff. Im 31 as well, and im sort of glad i still dont have Ninja turtle#1. that paint job was a magnet for cops, and i personally think I would look silly now (especially since 2tone and body kits are out of style mostly)

Bottom line is

1. do what you feel is best (as i trust you will)
2. enjoy yourself regardless of outsiders
3. remember i will call you a turncoat when you get rid of it (since you are one of my fave OG's on here)

cheers man!

Personaly I think the car looks like something straight from the F&F. I'd buy a g37...ctsv etc. Would own the performance of the celica in pretty much every way, yet not look like a teenager.

My opinion probably isn't popular, but I think most older people probably wouldnt even take you serious if they see you driving that.

Also most people on here will tell you to regret it. Its a personal feeling, i've sold a few cars and everyone on the forums will be like dont do it youll regret it! I never have.

you'll never get back what you put into it, just make sure you consider that. But think of it this way when I see that car I couldn't imagine my father driving that it looks like something a kid drives you're right on that, but if it makes you happy who cares what others think.

pave the driveway perhaps. i'm in the process of getting an estimate on that myself. a paved driveway counts as equity and should increase the value of your house.

i'm 31 as well and really want to spend money on making my car better, but houses have a prodigious thirst for thousands of dollars.

other things to think about:
1) typically american males have a midlife crisis. retaining your sports car would make such a crisis easier to complete.
2) i have a friend who is 82 (not a typo, eighty-two), a few years back he gave away his sensible hybrid sedan and bought an rx8.

I am looking for a four door tacoma to do everything I need and be a perfect daily mix of room and hauling and sporty enough to make me not miss all my cars and all the bs that seems to follow someone into the car scene. I tend to get bored I guess and just want to build something new all the time but every car scene is not different from the other. I just don't like the hating on each other I see everywhere and it is stupid. Even on this site where everyone is supposed to love the celica I see posting all the time where people hate on others for doin diff mod choices. Why?
You guys probably don't know ( some of you do) I have owned about 44 different cars and built some wild rides. I was doing swaps way way back in the day! Way before all the hold your hand how to swap a motor write-ups. Us old guys figured stuff out by trying parts and finding out it fit or not. The young guys i get looks from dont realize us old guys paved the way for all them to just go and read step by step swap threads. Some quick examples of my cars so you know I got a variety in my background...I have Built three mr2s, swapped a few gc imprezas, built a mean wrx, 3000gt, a supra that I put a huge turbo on and enjoyed the targa top! Built a custom turbo kit for a v6 eclipse from scratch. Built a turbo kit for a buddy who had a focus and the list goes on. I've gone drift style and built a s14 240 that I swapped a skyline rb25 motor into and put a nasty big turbo on it as well. I can build anything and I do all the work myself so it don't cost me anything as far as labor. Just parts! But anyway, after all the diff cars i built nonmatter what it was if it was sporty or fast or beat up cause I rallied it in the woods and hauled a huge picnic table on its roof...it was a turbo legacy, um ya. The moral of the story is that Someone will always hate on you or your car when you have something that stands out. maybe I'm going to just blend in to avoid all the negative bs. I will miss the positive tho!

I'll tell you straight up,

if I saw your Celica, I would think wow...some 16yr old trying to look like cool or trying to look like 2fast 2furious.
I would be embarrassed to drive that car at my current age of 22, let alone 31!

It's not the car that's the problem, it's how you made the car look.

Return the body to stock with some nice wheels and then it'd be much more clean and presentable.

I built the car when I was 20. The stuff I did was actually cool way back that long ago! Just isn't as cool now. It's done 100% the right way which is what really matters to me. No cutting corners doing things halfazz is what makes it cool even if the style is not up to date.

I understand. So 10 years ago would bring us right around the time of Fast & Furious. Explains everything.

Well anyway...Why not redo it to bring it up to date? Even just a different front bumper/body kit, get rid of that gaudy wing and some nicer wheels would do wonders.

Make sure you check the frame if you end up buying a tacoma. We had at least 10+ come in for new frames at work because of rust issues.

Even on the new tacomas?
I thought that was just a big problem on the 2000 and earlier trucks. (or right before they switched to the enw style tacomas whatever year that is)

Your setup isn't that bad even for today. The paint and that wing do have to go. I've been into cars just as long as you have. I'm now 29 and started when I was 16, but my taste and setup has always been the clean stock look with slight mods (mostly factory performance body panels or JDM). I never liked anything that didn't fit right or require bondo or any sort of body modifications. If anything, just get a GT4 wing and change the paint to something cleaner and less F&F.

I liked the movies but dang I hate it for what it did to the car scene during the early 2000's. The worst being the sequel and how it portray the car modding scene as a colorful party club like life just bother me so much.
