Florida Meet, Winter '12 Options

So, the time is upon us once again to gather and celebrate our celestial carriages whilst involving plenty of camaraderie and nonsense. We've met before with good success and I hope to meet those who have shown up once more, with new faces joining.

Meet point: Magnolia Point, Apopka

Please, feel free to chime in with an opinion on whatever may be of help. I will post up an attendee list as soon as interest gathers, and shortly before the meet the food responsibility will be handled for those who wish to contribute. I've got the burgers covered.

Hmm only 2 hours away for me, which is not to bad. If its going to be winter, no where near close to me having the 3s in, driving 2 hours in the leaky 7a right now would require me to bring a couple quarts of oil =P

Never intended to say it was, I'm asking for suggestions on possible spots between Orlando and Miami. I point out the Apopka spot because it's been the default, and I like it, but again, I'm open to offers. As long as people show. I drove from Naples to the Apopka spot in first meet, so it can be done guys.

Rave, we can do an oil fund? I'm willing to help out a fellow A-series.

I would actually love a SoFLA meet, just for the scenery, atmosphere and epic pictures that would be possible... palm trees, the ocean, cars on the Miami Beach strip next to scantily clad women. Yes. The sad part is that, you currently are one of the few active SoFla members I see, unless there are more hiding. And it just becomes impractical for those who live in a northern area to travel down south, which would deter those members from coming and create a crappy turnout.

The reason Central FL was chosen for the last few meets was because it is less than 2hr from Tampa, 1.5 from Daytona, 2.5 from Space Coast, 3-4hr from SoFla, 3 from SW FL, ~2.5 from Jax, ~2 from Gainesville/Lake city, and at furthest 5ish hrs from Tallahassee. Those other panhandle guys (Pensacola, panama city, etc) are so far from everything, placing the meet near them would be inconvenient to the rest of the gang.

In summary, we wanted a big turn out, and it seemed smart to have it central for that reason, so that no said group of people were driving 6-8 hours to see some guys they don't even know.

If everyone was willing to drive to Miami though.... hah. That would be one sweet meet.

Edit: I can recommend places between Orlando and Miami, but the question is will the people from north still want to go?(Ahem, rave2n.... this means you.)
There is a beautiful little park in Micco, near Sebastian, and some beach parks out near the fort pierce area.

Anywhere between 2-3 hours I can do, anymore I would fear the 7a would die, or me pulling over every 60 miles to let it sit, check the oil and back on the road. Sorry I'm a hassle!

There is a park 2 blocks away with some grills.... I know for a fact if I don't have a rolling Celica, I can push it there.

But, truthfully, if all goes well with the DMV this week, and the weekend schedule completed of fixings to the cellie (after we work in the plans the lady made, that I forgot about) I'm good within any 3 hour radius.

Glad you liked the cruise route. Some of my favorite roads in the whole state. Also, most of the other places in the state that we *could* meet would not have nearly as epic of a cruise, ever. There may be places with better scenery, but all those roads lack curves.

We need to pick a day already. I must note that I am forever doomed to an "on-call" job, so my attendance will unfortunately be based on that.

Ugh, same here brother. Thankfully with this new position in FL, I'm aloud to leave town, but must have my phone on at all times incase they need to reference my knowledge.

Truth is ill never really be able to commit to a day, so if we keep changing the day on my behalf it will just screw up everyone's schedule who can make it on a certain day. For me, its either I'm there or I'm not. I happen to know I will be working this exact date, but it is rare to have such advance notice.

Of course I would love to be there; I started these meets. However, I don't think everyone else should be screwed around with though cause of me. It's hard to get time off and go through that process and by throwing the date around too much I fear people might lose the opportunity of getting the right day off. Once you guys get a good turnout and have a good time is all I care about.

its amazing how quickly things change, i'm missing the whole week of work this week thanks to a bolt that holds my alternator bracket, the engine had to be pulled to have enough access to drill and tap new threads to repair the snapped bolt, while it was out i'm having the oil pump gasket front and rear main seals replaced, the clutch replaced and having the head gasket and valve seals replaced since it was discovered i am dripping oil through the seals. as a result I will not be able to take any days off so it looks like I am missing this one, I will need to make every cent I can to pay the mechanic back who is doing the work so taking a day off just isn't going to work.

I'm willing to move date, or just a complete reschedule. Not quite up to where I wanted to be with the GT, she would be embrassing to bring to a meet =P - It was just to damn cold this last weekend.

Either or, I already have the weekend called for when it comes to on-call status, no biggie, being my co-worker owes me about 6 already in this new year. So I can always acquire more whenever, but if we are set on this date...I'll wiggle my way out of work Friday, and start to get things in order for Sunday if we are still on.

I'm flexible as well, but Samir pretty much summed it up...the date has to be set sometime. Given that there really aren't many people now, I will allow another few days to see if interest gathers and if not, maybe another reschedule would be best.

Having said that, I'm really not far from the meet place so I actually wouldn't mind driving twice if a few want to show up on the 26th, and then if possible, get more people attending a month later.

Me and a buddy of mine were thinking of setting up a celica meet around the Tampa Area. I have a white '95 Toyta Celcia GT and my friend Jared has a Celica and an MR2 Turbo. We really like the idea of having a get together with other owners and talking and sharing ideas of each others cars and possible future meets. Orlando is not that bad of a drive but I'd really like it if we could have one in the Tampa area.

Diego, I was never able to get off work for the Jville event. Hopefully it was some cool stuff. Ray, have any specific date in mind? I don't mind having a meet at the time you're here.

On a side note...any way you could stuff a pair of Euro splitters in your suitcase? I understand they are to be found at salvage yards, and I'd be happy to reward you for your efforts.
