Well folks I got an odd one.

When the car is cold for an extended period, lets say 5 hours off. She takes a few attempts to turn over.

The first 3 attempts sound like when you have a dead battery, click nothing, click nothing. Then it'll grab, but not start, then finally it'll just start right up.

I thought maybe it was a bad battery, but it holds 12.8v off, and 14.3 running. So its not the battery. I assumed it may be starter, but I can shut the car off, and turn it right back on. Over and over, did it like 15 times this morning.

Any ideas?

check relay and solenoid. sounds similar to an issue w had with a suburban. when left and it was cold relay would lose contact but if your turned the key a few times it would warm up and fie right up. there should be an identical relay in your relay block that runs some non critical system you can swap to check it out.

and you can use a screwdriver or pliers to jump the terminals on the starter solenoid to test and se if your starters ok. make sure its not in gear

good luck, and let us know what you find

peace

if its the original starter then it most likely needs new starter contacts, mine was doing the same thing would take like 5 trys for it to catch and turn the car over, my contacts were nearly thin as 3 sheets of paper. luckily the parts were 10$ and just needed to wire wheel the starter's plunger. was a very simple repair. look for a local auto electric place that rebuilds starters they should have the parts. the issue with it starting after its warm im betting the metal is expanding just enough to make a better contact. like i said if its an original starter it wont hurt to replace the contacts.im 95% sure its the contacts. good luck with it
