NEW PICS in posts with dates (20121225)

OK finally got home to do this. Only was out there for a couple hours, most of which was mounting the intercooler.
But got alot done surprisingly.
Alot more to go but while waiting on the rest of the 3s parts im going to finish this off.

And for the love of god I know what I'm doing, it will end up fine.

Got the bumper realized supras fronts are like a foot wider than celicas kindasad.gif

...... so i cut it in half tongue.gif

And just started to fit it and grind away at what was in the way

After a bit of test fitting, started to fill the huge gaps.

Got dark like 20 mins after this picture so i had to stop. Should have them both ready for fiberglass by tomorrow, as long as it doesnt snow!

Yea there was a dude who did here a coulpe months ago (maybe 6?) and it looked like a complete hack job IMO.
If you're going to spend the money/time converting your FWD to look like a supra, you may as well spend the money a buy an NA Supra because at the end of the day, even though its NA, and maybe even automatic, it will still be faster than your celica, AND its RWD.

Not worth the time and effort to make one car look like another, if its not going to have equivalant performance.

I agree with Jordison. Here are the steps to success:

1.Sell orange "suplica" or the red car
2. Sell w.e. domestic you have
3. Buy a NA supra
4.???
5. Profit

The celicas lines are nice but the supras are sexual. The celica is just a cheaper version of the mk4 in every way possible(Besides the glass headlights laugh.gif )

Idk about the front compared to a stock 6gc ... but I've always thought the rear of the MKIV Supra was sexy as ****! But then again, I'm an ass man. I like how the back end came out a lot! But I'd stick with the Celica front imho.

Lol ok im not buying a supra. The whole point of it is not so I like fool people into thinking I have a supra lol. I want to do it just because its unique (yes I know others have done it)its the same reason I like refuse to do the gt4 look, everyone does it.
And its not about the money, like I can buy an na supraor pay someone to do it. But again anyone can just buy an n/a supra and be like oh look at that... Ive done nothing to the car lol
also I like doing the body work, its a fun hobby for me and ive molded kits for a few friends and am looking for the new challenge.
And I already bought a 3s, coverted harness, all the mounts, trans ect. Everything for the swap its just the time factor. Hopefully I can arrange to get the car and engine to manny while im gone and all that will be.done before I come back.
And started the thread now to get ideas (how diff bumpers look, lights, ect) on how it will look and see what others have.done so I can start chosing my parts soon rather than buy everything a wk before I come home lol and not be prepared.
Anyother pics are much appreciated

Thats probably the nicest conversion i've seen, and it still looks like **** lol.
The rear end is just too big and does not flow with celica lines at all.
Tail lights are also too low down the rear compared to the supra.

from my opinion ,
i dont like how the front and rear came out, look too big ,
i dont like this conversion because the supra is a really beautiful car, and celica as well, but they cannot be mixte well together, at least you can try the current front conversion, or transform some front aftermarket bumper to make look special

its an alright conversion but the rear tails seem to be a bit low, needs to be picked up a bit.

I say go for it, just remember the golden rule for custom body work.

It takes 2 hours to cut everything, two days to weld it all back together, and 2 years of body work to make it look right.

thats actually a sloppy conversion, but good attempt. The fenders don't even line up and there is too much warping.

With all of the custom body work on that red conversion you could have purchased a real Supra...

If you're going to do a supra front end, do it right the first time and don't use a crappy duraflex kit.
It will look even worse than using a stock front end.

20121225 Update Pics

Didnt get alot done today because of christmas, snow, and the foam takes forevvverrrrr to dry in the cold.

started by cutting the light out, which takes a bit longer than you'd think.

Got the light out and shaved away a bit more to fit the layers of fiberglass going over top

Started the other light, but its still not dry after 5 hours so it will sit over night

20130102
Ok finally got some progress done after the holidays and a lllll the snow I keep getting. Only had an hour or two a couple days this past week.
Also fiberglass/bondo takes forever to dry in freezing temps, dont attempt.
Alot of pics, and alot of progress.

Like the progress on the car. Dont listen to everyone else bashing you. Its your taste and its a fun hobby of your to do work. I dont see everyone else doing so much custom work, it's not easy and takes time. Keep us posted and when are you heading out again?

I know it looks like **** lol cause its not done, but anyone who has done something like this knows its not pretty till the end.
I dont have anything to do tomorrow so i should get alot done, and post up new pics. I think ill have the basic shaping all done tomorrow, just alot of sanding and tedious details after that
and im going to New River, NC

Well only got like 2 hours to work on this, and most of it was just sanding. But most of the work is done now, just hours and hours of sanding to come. Will have pics tomorrow of it with the lights in but figured id put these pics up now.

Got the lights wired up too while a coat was drying

Did a little work on the rear as well. Thats pretty much done, and got all the wiring done

Then installed the box I made a couple weeks back. Have the sides pretty much done too (goes around the top so there isnt the big gaps on the sides) but they aren't at this house.

Arent you worry about the bondo and paint cracking. You can get away with a lot on hard surfaces (rear fenders etc). But i know how flimsy those fiberglass or polyfiber bumpers are. They flex a little at highway speeds, not to mention if it happens to be bumped.

lmao i never saw the robot face, thats kinda funny.

And theres 2 cans on it now, just bought a third. Should only need three. But ive been using it all over the car, not just the front. And used some to finish the speaker box.

As far as cracking, i just have to deal with it if it does. Im going to be painting the car myself again anyhow so if i have to spray something after, its not a big deal. But none of the other parts have cracked, and i did something similar on my friends car and its still fine. the only thing that cracks is the bondo glazing putty stuff, even in like tiny cracks ive never had luck with it. Thats why i take forever just sanding it all, rather than fill the tiny cracks with it.

Got the left side pretty much done, but I dont know if I will get back to the car today for better pics.

I tried bondo hair like the first time i did anything and it just made a mess. probably because i had no idea what i was doing but regular bondo is super easy for my to work with. I will try it with my next project though... got some ideas on a sub box for 2 18" wink.gif

That's all I use lol then I use bondo time you use glaze
If you fine bondo hair to be too messy try bondo glsss. It's shorter hairs an a little easyer to use

I think its starting to shape up biggrin.gif
Love it, hate it?
Had most of the day finally to work on this. Alot of time spent making the outside of the lights and hood work.
Also got the left side done and primed, but no pics ill grab some tomorrow should have the right side done then too. Also finished up the wiring for the front.

Took them out and sanded alot more, and primed. Still a long way to go but its getting there

Looks like a lot of work done there!........ but would it not have been easier just modding a Supra front end to fix on?, will it be ok jarring in a pothole without falling off/cracking.

Well done though!

Getting started yesterday

then rain frown.gif

Started again today

Got lights in, ran out of primer too it will look better tomorrow.

Closing the hood biggrin.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Progression

Still have a lot to do. The rear is done too i just didnt snap any pics. I just need to figure out the wiring on the rear.

What does 6gc think?

bondo needs alot of work on the edges and making it look flat...intercooler area seems a bit crooked...but I guess its not all finished either though...I hate bondo because I've never seen anyone do anything that doesnt look perfect to me

It's looks sort of like a sad face to me lol
I think you need to curve out the front section of the wheel wells, by the bumper, so that it looks more rounded.
The edge of the hood and fenders, by the headlights, just looks too bulky, IMO. Then again this is coming from an art student lol

I do give you the props on the body work and try to do it though! smile.gif

hey for do it yourself in your backyard, I give you credit. but it does need more work to be clean.

I assume you plan on swapping in the 3s into this car seeing that it has no motor.. prob going to be a bit more of a pain with front bumper molded to the body kindasad.gif

Bondo is not the product to use on any panel that will flex, fiber glass products is what you should have used for such a big job. They do make a special filler for bumpers, but that should be used for minor defects in a bumper. Being that the filler is so thick it will be even more prone to cracking should have built it up with a hair type product then used the filler for the top coat. Filler has it's place on more structural panel's though, and you hardly ever want to exceed a 1/4 of an inch thick on those, to add lots of moisture will cause it to fail aswell.

Wish ya the best of luck, did bodywork from the age of 15 till i was 21yrs old i have seen alot of stuff missed used. I like the concept, just hope it last more than 1-5months of driving.

yeah i realize it needs a lot more work, but im in the military and dont have the car cause cant work on it here.
I will most likely leave it like this for a while, and after i get the 3s running good ill take it down to NC and paint it after i fix the shaping of it all
Think its pretty good for having like 2 weeks to work on it in the freezing cold.

Are you concerned about clearance for the front bumper? The car will lower at least two inches once a 3S is in it, and with stock suspension it seems like it would bounce enough to impact ground with a little bump. Stiffer suspension would minimize bounce but then I imagine maybe two inches of clearance. Mainly speaking of the area that ends in the front wheel arch.

Yeah, I am just going to deal with it as it comes. Hopefully It doesn't hit the ground with the engine just in lol. Ill end up getting coil overs at some point before the car is on the road (wont be for another year or so). Right now I am just having the engine put in, then I will get the exhaust done somewhere. BTW is there any "chain" shops that will do a custom exhaust, or do I need to go to some custom place.
And I will let you know death if I come into any problems.

I have a guy locally at Red I Imports that will do it for a price. He'll do any type of pipe, muffler, or what ever. You give him what you want and he'll throw it together. I'm having him build me a custom downpipe for my Tanabe G-Power header come spring.
