Well, you guys really helped me out with the eclipse decision, and i read all about the reliablity and it seems the timing belt has a tendency to snap and the tranny is weak as well as the back end mad.gif Well, after some more consideration im thinking about an MR-2 like was suggested, mid engine, rwd wow thats awesome, but what about reliability? Basically im asking for a 6gc vs mr-2
thnx again guys, you're all very very very helpful!
was also wonderin if i could drive one of those babys in the winter, we have brutal cold and sometimes snowy winters up here in toronto, would a mid engine rwd car hold its own?

well just look one the roads when your drive you still see old MR-2 around... like they have on the first page of my owners book.. " Toyotas are forever" if you find one that taken care of even with a ship load of miles you shouldn't have any major problems... it is a toyota engine.. and you can ride one of those though hell and back.. (non turbo)

the MK2 MR2 turbo model has the 3sgte motor in it. the MK2 NA model has the 5sfe motor (the 6th gen Celica GT motor). the MK1 NA model has the 4age motor in it, and the MK1 Supercharged model has a 4agze motor. you cant go wrong with any of them for reliability, trannys are all solid as well.

and winter is BAD idea. read up some on how a MR setup handles. its MUCH different then FF or FR.

EDIT:
im not saying it isnt doable, cuz people do pull it off, but knowing my driving style, with a turbo MR car, i would NEVER pull it off in my car.

turbo models as well man, that 3sgte will last you forever if you dont modify it and keep up with the maintanence, and a turbo rebuild unfortunatly is maintanence that is necessary (after about 60K-70kmiles is when you should start thinking about a rebuild).

I don't trust myself enough to drive an MR (turbo) during the winter, but to each their own. if you think you can handle a MR2 in the snow more power to you wink.gif

hey,
since i mainly deal with mr2's ..i will say that a mr2 is rock solid car and is over built by Toyota .. either motor in the mk2 will last forever with good up keep ..

if you plan to make it a year long car then i would HIGHLY suggest winter tires.. i have driven mk1 and mk2's boosted and NA in winter with all season tires and it was ok just need to be very aware of what car is doing .. snow tires and a sand bag in the trunks will help out a lot.. car drives like any other just have to slowly leave stop lights and of course corners must be taken carefully but otherwise nothing to worry about ..

i plan to make my v6 mk2 hybrid a summer car and my winter car will be GT4 w/ snow tires.. yes i know GT4 as a winter car..
