So I stumbled across a Toyota A1XX transmission technician repair pdf and found the answers to the questions I sought.

Now I'm gonna share it with you biggrin.gif I've labeled the connecter name (X# [except for the S54 Reverse Position Switch as idk it]) and the connector description. The pdf also has amazing removal/installation instructions among lots of other goodies, such as gear changes, wire diagrams, cause & effect relations, ect.

Automatic A1XX Transmission:

Manual S54 Transmission:

How to convert A1XX Harness for use on an S54:

- First were gonna start with the simplest part, plug V5 into V5 on the S54 laugh.gif

- Now moving on to the more complicated part, take P1 and open the back end cap off (or just cut the connector off...)

Before I tell you what to do, let me tell you how this connector works, its based on continuity of a voltage through certain wires. If the car is park it gives the aye okay to start by sending a constant voltage through 5 and 6 (indicating that its in a gear allowable to start) and 2 and 7 (indicating that its in the gear Park). Now if you were in reverse it would just send it through 2 and 8. So essential 2 and X = Gear | 5 and 6 = can start engine. So moving along once again...

- Take out wires 5 and 6. They should be the bigger black ones.

- If you have a clutch starter relay, you shouldn't need my help, wire her up.

- If not, you have 2 options:

Option #1. Wire 5/6 up to a I/O switch on the clutch pedal. I tried doing this to the stock plug that was already attached but gave up after 5 minutes cause I couldn't get the prongs to stay attached without getting pushed out of the way by the pedal itself and was too lazy and impatient to rethink it out laugh.gif

Option #2. This is the easy but dangerous way out as you'll be able to start it in gear without disengaging the clutch. Splice wires 5 and 6 together.

- Now take out wires 2 and 8

- Splice them into the reverse harness for the S54, doesn't matter which way it'll work or-

- If you don't have the reverse harness/connector, you once again reach a fork in the road:

Option #1. This is what I did, wire each cable to a prong using female connectors. Just make sure you wrap them up (so they don't touch or your reverses will always be on) and then fill in the rest of the plug with silicone or whatever. Then hook the other ends up to 2 and 8

Option #2. Or just don't worry about them, its not legally required to have reverse lights.

-Lastly, take P1 make sure no one wires exposed copper is touching another, wrap them up, and tuck them safely out of the way. Also do this for E2 and E3.

I hope all of this information was helpful...if not sorry for wasting your time! laugh.gif

For the S54, the three wire plug is for the speed sensor. The two wire plug is for reverse lights. You will need the reverse light plug from a manual harness and splice it in to your auto harness. If I recall correctly, the wire colors are the same.

Isnt it a neutral safety switch on the automatic.

I would have thought the neutral/park safety switch would have been on the main harness since the selector is right there?

I've never paid close attention to a 5S with an auto bolted to it, I only know what I've seen in the "auto to manual" thread and what I've seen in my BEAMS harness that was intended for an auto tranny. The neutral start wire for my BEAMS harness was in the big main plug, the same place as the auto to manual thread says it would be. As for the reverse light plug, I remember having to steal the plug from my old 5S manual trans harness and pull two wires from the BEAMS auto harness (I can't remember what the plug looked like) and splice my old plug in. I remember it being a simple job, right down to the wire colors being the same.
