Two fans, one for the engine coolant, the other for the air conditioning.

Look thru the

Parts For Sale

threads for the fans!!! A parting out thread is where I found 1 of mine.

Or scan the yards for them!! No 6gcs at all around me.
Quite the cash sponge if you get new ones!!

PS
I **believe** they are specific to orientation of use.

You can get 14" push/pull 12v electric fans from eBay.

I have a single 12" (the other one's in the mail) and my car didn't overheat (it's got a working thermostat and a high idle too).

I'm going to put in the second 12" for peace of mind, but if I had known, 2 14" fit nicely on the stock radiator.

Your car only has one radiator fan, and one condensor fan. They look identical and they are both mounted side by side on the radiator but one technically runs when the A/C is on and the other when the coolant is hot(though I think on ours they both do)

But anyways,
go back to the parts store and ask them to look for the condensor fan or motor.

im not sure why they're listed as separate, it seems to me, if you disconnect the thermoswitch from the radiator, both fans come on, if you disconnect the aircon pressure switch, both fans come on...

ive never seen 1 operate and 1 not..

They're listed as separate because cars without air conditioning still needed a fan for the cooling system.

I guess its tradition, because now every car either has both fans run or has variable speed fans. But I postulate that older cars where electric fans were new technology may have only had a coolant fan and or a condenser fan.

But its just the way things are as stupid as it sounds-
One's called the radiator fan / the other is called a condenser fan

alot of these terms apply to old RWD cars

such as calling an alternator/aircon/powersteer belt a "fan belt"

"condenser fan" term comes from being a single electric fan mounted infront of the condenser while the crank driven fan cools the radiator in a rwd car

and yes galcobar, cars do need a cooling fan, you're a genius well done.

It's not a matter of obsolete terms in the case of the Celica.

The cooling system has a fan specifically for the cooling system, separate from the fan for the A/C system. If you don't have A/C, you don't have an A/C condenser and thus you don't have an A/C fan. The fans don't come as a pair.

They're not just different part numbers, they're different parts, with different prices.
