Me and a buddy have been talking a while about building a speaker enclosure together because we both wanna learn how to do it and how to work with fibre glass. So today we got together to get an idea of what to do. So we talk cars for a few hours and look at the trunk of his car that its going in which is a 1973 Datsun 240z, just amazing shape. So we decide that we should use chicken wire to make the shape and lay fibre glass over it. So we take off to his sisters get that out of her garage, find her husbands stash, well you know what happens next. We are back at his garage being the 2 dumbest asses in the world, everything we did we thought of the hardest way first, but finally we got a bas made with wood and used dowels to use as supports for the chicken wire and measured them to make up the basic shape of the enclosure, so next time we will do the wire and fibre glassing, i think its going to look awesome, his car is gonna be hot, and we have the same clean cut taste so that works out. Ill post pics when I get some more progress..and a camera":P
And yes dont get high when you want to be productive":P |

Dowels, chicken wire and fiberglass seem like overkill....but most times relating to car audio, overkill is helpfull. I usually jsut use 10 or so layers of 'glass with some wood bracing. Also, for bracing you can soak cloth rope (not plasticy) in the resin and then lay it similar to lattitude and longitudes lines(horizontal and vertical if you will). Get some pics up soon! And good luck

Ya man the dowels are basically there to help us get the shape, for the most part the fibre glass will be the main structure and support. Once you see the shape you'll understand why we are doing it that way. |
