If it was a SC400 or 5-speed SC300 I'd say yes.

Just looked and saw your ST is also an auto. That being the case, as long as the SC is in good shape and you don't mind fronting the cost of gas then go for it. They're very nice cars, and everyone that owns one loves it. The 4.8-5 star ratings on Edmund's throughout production testify to that. You can always single turbo it and have quite a performer.

That's impossible, I've never had enough to be drunk. I'll suffer alcohol poisoning before any sense of being drunk kicks in, trust me I've tried.

Anyhow... The SC300 is superior in every way to the Celica, aside from fuel economy. If he doesn't mind spending more on gas then he should go for it.

do you know that the SC300 is a non turbo Supra? other than body and interior, its Identical to the non turbo supra. same engine, same trans, same suspension. etc etc etc. SC300s are VERY VERY boost friendly. they will support 400HP all day long and twice on days that end in Y.

if the SC is clean and in good shape. i would go for it! 5 speed SC's are very hard to come by but they are out there.

this is a very hard decision. i would be trading him my st with all the extras...projector headlights..jdm tail, raiser block...power folding mirrors and a lot of extras that i have and i would be throwing in my gt parts car as well with yhe 5sfe still in it...not a big whoop but its something. ive always wanted an sc300 cause of it style, 2jzn/a motor which is a very cspable motor and ive never owned a rwd car.....plus its a lexus. im yet to test drive though.

Being that you're trading EVERYTHING for the SC it should be in top nick. It should be equal or exceed the condition of your car. It should also be on the lower mileage side of things. Preferably one in the low 100's since all of the maintenance will have been done already.

That's one of the more logical and coherent things I've seen from others here lately.

Sorry for trashing your thread fuzzywuzzy! Same to you Box!

And yea either way definitely check it out. I'm kinda wondering why someone would wanna trade SC300 straight up for a ST Celica. Then we can figure out if its worth it. Could always sell it and buy a GT laugh.gif

found out some intereting intel today. apperently the guy wants to trade me his sc300 because he has a 6gc on the side lines and cant find a parts car to fix his. like i stated before on another thread, the 6gc is not common in pueeto rico. knowing this info i might just sell him my gt parts car and make a buck out of it.

I have a GC6 and a SC300, they are both unique enjoyable rides. But, very different animals to be sure. The early years of SC300 and SC400 (V-8) have some unique characteristics. For reliability, ease of engine maintenance, etc. I prefer the SC300. The V-8 has some known problems with power steering leaks, front end strut issues, ps leaks into the alternator, etc. Also, true horse power differences were not worth the engine repair issues. Both cars are strong performers - not racers per se, but decent performance with finesse -- especially on the open road. Gas mileage the same for V-8 and straight six due to lower gearing on the SC300 -- 20 mpg town, 26mpg on highway, but probably will require 91 to 93 octane. Engines and transmissions are solid.

Make sure there are no outstanding repairs needed whatever as Lexus can be very expensive to repair. Timing belt breakage not a critical issue as the 95 SC300 is a non-interference engine. But timing belt replacement can be $700 to $1500 depending how far you want to replace other components while replacing the timing belt, e.g. power steering pump, water pump, front crankshaft seals, new belts, etc. which are basically recommended replacement items that are worthwhile when changing the timing belt.

Alignment and front ends tend to wear with considerable mileage -- all manageable but can lead to expensive repairs.

The Celica: fun driver and reliable. Much less maintenance at much lower cost. Regular gas and good mileage.

Long trips: Lexus is a dream ride, Celica you know you have been on a long trip!

In either case, they are both very enjoyable vehicles with their own unique sense of style and drivability. Performance wise after driving the Lexus the Celica will feel like a nimble turtle in an affectionate way!

Good luck on your choice and let us know how it all turns out.

--------------------

I spent my money on wild women, partying, gambling,
expensive timepieces, and my 6GC - the rest of it I wasted!
