So winter is almost upon us and it's just about time to start "winterizing" the Celica. Just wondering what I should do in terms of preparing it for the brutal winter? Other than winter tires what else is important? Oil change or anything? Should I swap out my carbon fiber hood for the winter or is it not too big of a deal? Thanks!

Make sure you have 50/50 coolant, use de-icing windshield wiper fluid, and have proper weight oil.

What oil should I use? Should I stick with 5W30 or go with something like 0W30?

laugh.gif he meant the owners manual.

Either 5w30 or 10w30 is what the manual calls for.

yup depending on how cold it gets 5w30 or 10w30.

besides that, also remember, some good windshield wipers will go a long way.
no use in having awesome tires and oil if you can't see the road.

Hmmm, my only concern is that the carbon fiber would be more susceptible to cracking and shattering in the intense cold. If you still have your metal hood I'd throw it on to be safe.

And I hate you for that Box! laugh.gif

I don't think you should worry about the cf hood. Don't forget to check your battery too. And I use some silicone spray or something like that for the sealing rubber around the door, because the most embarrassing thing is when you can't open the door because it's frozen. biggrin.gif

All of those cars spend Winter in a warm garage. tongue.gif Properly engineered and made OEM carbon fibre I wouldn't worry about, cheap aftermarket I'd be worried a little. If not for more than anything that the chances of an incident increase.

I'd take it off.
A couple of friends of mine have carbon fibre pieces, (including a hood) and they all remove it for winter.

One thing to add to make winter driving more pleasurable is to add heated elements to your seats. They go for under $100 on eBay, really easy to install, and will quickly warm you up before the heater in the car can.

Thats more so for storing in cold weather, fuel stabilizer is what your thinking of, i believe.

To help you preserve your car you can:
-Rustproof
-Wash it from time to time to remove the salt
-Buy rubber mats to avoid spilling calcium on the carpet

A remote starter is always handy tongue.gif

How hard is it to install a remote starter in a standard? I assume you have to wire into the clutch somehow?

Have it to where it'll cancel out the clutch interlock switch. I don't see the point in remote start, it's not worth the money and hassle. Block heater would be money better spent.
