I was thinking a few ideas on getting my celica done, AWD can be done but its lots of fabrication and etc, maybe one day lol. Anyways guys I need some input. I have a obd2 99 celica vert. I am wanting to either build up my 5s completely or just go the 3sgte route. But for emissions I will need to pass every 2 years... So is the st205 a obd2? If not I was thinking the st215 from the caldina. I know the wiring is a pain... But I would like to get some info since winter is coming and I am looking to have the celica a good ways by next year. Thanks for any input!

OBD is a US regulation, so only US spec engines would work. JDM engines have their own version of OBD but it can't be read by US scanners.

yep, there is no ODB2 3S-GTE. your best bet is to turbo the 5S. you could buy my kit for sale. Its really easy to install and take off for testing day.

1mz is obd2 and it is to my knowledge legal in all 50 states. As long as you get it from a vehicle made the same year or newer.

3MZ would work. In fact use the 3MZ block with 1MZ intake and heads, that's what Smaay did if I remember correctly.

looks like there is a lot for you to read.

I can tell you a 2gr, 3sgte, 1mz, 3mz, beams, and so many more if you brand jump.

we cant really tell you what to do. we dont know what laws and regulations you have to submit your car to. what kind of inspections you need to pass. how much you want to spend, how much of the work you will do, or if you have a qualified mechanic

read the stickies, see what problems each swap has, and then see the regulations in your city/county.

Looks like we are on the same Boat. I recently bought the front and rear clip from japan for my Vert 30k miles and everything needed for the awd conversion.... Its funny how I thought I would be able to create one of the first awd verts. I have everything needed but its to costly to get al the fab done just like you had mentioned. So now im in the process of just swaping in the 3sgte with the S54 trans only temporary until I can get my hands on e153 trans. Best of luck
