What do you guys have your psi set at? Ive been between 30-40 psi, and if found about 38 psi to be the best. Am i running them too high?

i'm running 28 psi but thats stock tires....if you want to know what that best psi to run at just look at the side wall.. and just remeber thatt air expands when it get hot so you have to take that into account when putting air into your tires.

Your PSI will change with a given season, so compensate for summer/winter months

I run about 40 psi. The manufacturer's rating seems to be more for the optimum comfort and convenience, and the car feels better at higher psi. *shrug* ymmv, but 38 sounds like a good number to me.

The sidewall is not an accurate indicator of what the tire is doing because every different type of tire has a different carcas constuction and therefore a different lateral and vertical stiffness. Different tires will all work differently in that regard.

38 is not too high. 28 is too low. I wouldn't run less than 32psi cold or more than 40 cold.

For performance the optimum pressure varies a lot from tire to tire and can only be found with testing and a stopwatch. For the street, go with what feels right, within the 'nominal' range.
