There's a very good chance that if money is tight, you're probably much better off going with the turbo and not the swap. This is especially true since the 4agze swap hasn't even been sucessfully complete (to my knowledge) and if it has, its not a widely done swap. Also, there are plenty of people on here that have turbo'd the 7afe and would be more than willing to help you out if you have any problems. With that said, my vote goes toward the turbo.

the 4agze swap hasnt been completed in a 6gc too many times, maybe once or twice that anybody here can prove.
but it does work, i have seen it done in an old tercel. but expect a lot of down time, and a lot of little problems with a swap, especially since you have to convert to 5spd as well, which will require more parts sourcing and more money. if money is tight, take some time to think about exactly what you want to do. i saved money and did research for 11 months before i started putting together my turbo kit. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

I'd suggest fixing everything that's wrong with your car first, and then working your way up to turbo-ing the 7afe. I personally know a few people from celica.net that can help you piece together a turbo, and I'm sure there are many folks on here than can help you out too.

gze swaps are done in corolla's all the time
if you want to turbo, i say get the 4a-gze which is built for boost..... then later when you want the turbo, strip the s/c and take advantage of the stonger bottom end.... |

I asked a similar question to the crowd on club4ag, and they told me not to waist my time on an A series engine, and to get a 3sgte.
In other words, keep saving your money, and do it right the first time. Jon |

since money is tight for you, i would turbo the 7a. you can start out with little things to prepare for it and have fun in the process instead of spending all that time just saving money.

asking a question on club4ag can either get you great or horrible answers.... generally topics are pushed back so far so quickly only a few people see them and it becomes their word..... i generally only go there for the buy/sell section...... a 4a-gze is a well built motor.... and A series motors (4a-ge) is that toyota uses in their atlantic series cars... which rev past 11,000 rpm's and put out over 240hp and are still n/a..... |

I'll second that... The A series is a great seires, IMO, much more fun than the S seires. The 4AG heads are built to rev far beyond the stock specs, probably good for 9000 rpms or so, or until you start gettin valve float. The GZE blocks are very tough also, and they respond very well to boost. They can make as much power as a 7AFTE @ 12 psi which is around 190-200whp and can probably do it more reliably... but the do make a bit less torque. Power-wise, I'd take a 4AGZE over a 7AFTE basically because you're looking at essentially the same power (depending on which 4AGZE you get). The 4AGZE will be more difficult, but price-wise, they should each break even with the other. An OD pulley on the MAP 4AGZEs have shown around 190-200 to the wheels around 10-12 psi... so they can take it reliably. A turbo 4AG built off of the GZE block will be even better than a 7AFTE... but it's your call. Honestly speaking, if you're still in school and money is an issue... you should worry about school and making more money before you worry about going fast. School will help you make money, which will eventually help you reach your power goals, which will drain your money, which will........ on and on... ;] -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... sorry to say this, but they're not that smart to say you should save for a 3sgte, when you have an ST and the tranny of your car will not mate up to the 3sgte. Guys, can you still drop in a 4age or 4agze into the 6th gen STs? I know they mate very well with the 5th gen STs cos they have the 4afe in it, but does the 4ag(z)e work well where the 7afe was? -------------------- ![]() |

all A series motors use the same mounts.... so yes.... you could do any of the following into a car that came with an A series motor:
4a-c, 4a-f, 4a-fe, 7a-fe, 4a-ge bluetop, 4a-ge redtop, 20V 4a-ge silvertop, 20V 4a-ge blacktop, 4a-gze bluetop, 4a-gze redtop |
