So opening the super strut shock to find out Toyota decided to use a hydraulic cartridge instead of the gas cartridge found in the McPherson set up.

I saw one video from YouTube and I only understood that hydraulic allows for a smoother and less harsh ride when strut rebounds. Is this true. Anybody else have any thoughts?

A Gas shock is basically a gas filled hydraulic shock isnt it?

The gas is placed in a hydraulic shock to prevent aeration.

I like strut discussions!!

Yeah it makes big potholes a lot more bearable. The difference is small though with handling, you probably wouldn't know the difference unless you were told what to look for. Also I was told the hydraulic ones last longer, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Most all shocks and struts have both oil and air. Monotubes divide a chamber of air and oil with a divider piston and a working piston that pushes down on the air pocket. Twintubes are just that and consist of two tubes joined together and have a working piston that pushes oil through a valve between the chambers. Gas-charged twintubes add a pocket of nitrogen air to the reserve tube to reduce foaming of the oil.

Ok I need to push out crimped superstrut shock housing but don't know what kind of shop would do that. Where do I go?
