Ok guys,
this is what has been going on. A few of you guys have been asking me to make some things (especially "strut bars"). Well, I think i have a plan? I would like to know how many people would deffinetly be in for me making a bounch of these!
I have made a rear strut bar "as a prototype" (look on my profile for pics) and since it turned out really well, I am willing to make some of these for other 6gc members! The bars will fit both the GT and ST since body types are the same.
I have not yet made a front bar yet, but i am sure i can... since it should be similar but would just use more material and cost a little more. I will be making a front bar in the next few days and it will be a "3 point brace" like the really expensive ones that cost over $300.
Depending on the amount of people that are serious about this.... the price will drop for the more people that want these braces!
Prices will be:
front bar price will be $130 including shipping
rear brace will be $100 including shipping
only people that have $ and are serious should reply to this post!!!!
This is for all you guys who want "good solid strut braces" but dont want to spend tons of $ on them!
DG

matt,
i just looked at the rear jspeed 3point brace.... it looks like i can make that. I just got to go and look at my car to see how that mounts!
update: i just looked at that and there is no place to mount the bottom! looks like the jspeed rear makes you drill into the floor and mount it???
thanks,
dg

I'm a moron, but I've got a question. What exactly do these bars do? What are the pros/cons of having one/two of them in your vehicle? How exactly can we install them (I've seen your pics, but I'm still clueless)? Would you be willing to provided exact installation instructions?

Thanks,

I will put pics of the front brace on my profile when i get finished making the prototype. i will also have to make jigs from the prototype braces.... so all of the braces come will turn out exactly the same.
I am going to need a few days on the rest of the stuff i got to do to be able to produce more of these braces, so look for pics later in the week.
after both front and rear braces are posted on my profile.... i will be making these for people in the order that i receive payments.
this way the people that are "ready to buy these" will not have to wait for other dreamers delaying the process biggrin.gif
Thanks guys,
DG

p.s. about me making instructions, trust me ....they will not be needed!
It is a simple bolt on mod to make the car handle better...

doesn't the 3 point rear brace bolt onto the middle of the seat mounts, where the back seats are secured to the body? Im interested in the front but would like pics first. thanks for doing this seeing as how there is a lack of decently priced mods for the 6gen.

The Jspeed rear mounts to the same point as the rear seat. It shouldn't be too hard to do. If you come up with this, I would definitely be in for a rear. Otherwise I'll just wait and blow $260 on the Jspeed.

Given a price to work for, I can have the money in about a month. I'm guessing the other bars people are wanting will take about that long, so I'll try to save up about 150 or so and hit you up when I do.

Well, I have an aftermarket cruise set up on my car, and it's bolted up where the three point brace connects to the fire wall. So, I really don't want to move it. Plus, I know on Camaros and such that three point braces have been known to crack the windshield under someconditions. I've never heard of it on a celica, but hey, I think the regular strut tower brace would work just fine. As long as it is beefy, I'd personally want a two point brace.

Thanks

ok guys,
fabrication on the front braces has started!! look on my profile and you can get the general idea of what they will look like... remember that the parts are not even welded and look like crap right now but when it is done you will see a big difference! I just wanted to post and say that i started to meke em. Start lining up to buy em cause i plan on making a few over the weekend. first come first serve! dibs will go to the people who have money ready to buy and have these shipped out. Final product pic will be on my profile as soon as the first bar is done.... that way you can see what the final product will look like!
thanks,

Nice work DG!! it looks great! I was wondering what the strut bar was made of exactly? Is it solid or hollow? Any chance of it rusting?

well,
the braces are hollow to save on weight, but they are made of thick walled steel tubing (very strong) . There is always a posibility of rust when you deal with steel, but think about the stock GT strut bars..... they are made of very thin steel and they dont seem to rust( at least mine never did)! It really depends on how you treat your car! If you leave you engine bay get all nasty and dirty and never clean it then yea the bar will rust from neglect and bad conditions! As for the comment someone made about windshields cracking???? the stock GT bar is hooked to the same place under the windshield so why do you think 3 point bars would be more likely to crack the windshield? If you stop to think for a sec, if the car flexes more with a weak brace ....the stronger brace should flex the windshield less??????? or am i missing something?????? seems like an urban legend or something to me???
everyone is entitled to an opinion though so ..... hey maybe you are right ????
i never heard of this happening

eh, crap. I just looked at the design and there's no way that will fit my car with the 3s swap. The 3rd bar on the front would hit on the intercooler piping. Oh well.

Updates: The 3 point brace will not fit the ST's (thanks for the tip doggy) ...so what i have done is added options that you guys can pic from.
These Front and Rear braces are for hatchback cars only, because i have no info for any other types of celica's for the fitment purposes.

"Thick" and "Super Thick" are options now!

Prices are now different due to me finding out how much work is actually involved for each different brace i make. and for the work, trust me the prices are still a good deal biggrin.gif (prices apply within the 48 states)

Options:
Super Thick 2pt Front Brace (gt style) = $140 shipped
Super Thick Rear = $115 shipped
Thick 3pt front (for gt only) = $145 shipped
Thick 2pt front (gt style) = $120 shipped
Thick Rear = $105 shipped
And for all you that dont pay attention...... "shipping is included"
Money orders and paypal only (paypal you must add 3% to the total cost)
New pics are now on my profile !!!!!!
Thanks guys,
DG

These braces look great will be a great addition to anybodies car.DG_Performance how long will 6GC members be able to buy one of these braces from you?I`m presently in the process of buying a body kit,and some stuff for my interior so money is pretty tight.I`m hoping that you have a jig made that you will make these available to us some time during the Summer months,or worst case as a Winter time purchase.I think it would make a great Christmas gift to ourselves or from someone else.
Anyways keep up the good work DG_Performance. Thanks for helping us all out in getting some much needed parts for our 6G!!!! biggrin.gif

I do have a jig made and can make them any time. But if you catch me at a busy time it will just take me longer to get one done and out to you thats all ! Thanks for the comment...... i like to help out all i can. I know how parts are hard to find for our cars and when you do find a part, it is really expensive from Japan or something! I want other people that dont have unlimmited funds to have a chance to hook up their cars too!

I dont see why the front braces wouldnt fit the coupes/verts. The J-speed front braces fits hatchs and coupes all the same, so i dont see why DGs would be any different.

i thought i mentioned b4 that the front of the cars are the same!!
but if you have an st instead of a gt you can only use the 2 point setup instead of the 3 point style.
the only reason for this is because of the way i designed my 3 pt setup. my 3pts only fit the "gt" car
the rear is all the same for the hatchbacks! so as long as you got the hatch you can get a rear bar too!!!!!
no rear stuff for the coupes
thanks,
dg

I have a celica ST with a 3sgte... how is it that the 3 point doesnt fit on the ST, is it because of the engine or what... what dimensions do i have to give you to get the 3 point or 2 point strut bar on my car.

Hey guys!
I got a Rear Strut bar (normal thick) that i made as a prototype a while back and it is just sitting in my garage, and i figured i will let it go cheap to the first person to email me. I only want $50 bucks for it and buyer is to pay for shipping. It will only fit the hatchback cars!!!!!
I just need some extra quick cash for the swap biggrin.gif

I got a Rear Strut bar (normal thick) that i made as a prototype a while back and it is just sitting in my garage, and i figured i will let it go cheap to the first person to email me. I only want $50 bucks for it and buyer is to pay for shipping. It will only fit the hatchback cars!!!!!
I just need some extra quick cash for the swap biggrin.gif
thanks,
dg

DG - what will you have to do differently for the front strut brace for the 3S? Has production begun on this version yet?

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Cormudgen, I just noticed you are interested in the rear bar.....i will send you pics of it

Akuza, Those side tower bars help to stiffen up the car. For better cornering and handling.

jgreening, the new bar that i am working on for the 3s is going to be a 3 point bar. the other bars that i make will work but i have requests for 3points for all the swapers???? I have not yet started on that yet. Pics will be posted on my profile when i get it done!

Ok guys?

About your side tower bar, how hard in the installation? does it require removing the fender?

I would recomend that you just take the fenders off when you put the side bars on but you might be able to get em on without taking the fenders off?
If you take the fenders off you will make the install so much more easy to do!
The room in the fender is pretty tight and will just make the install a big pain.
the fenders are only are held on by::::: 3 bolts on top, 2 nuts in front with a bolt under the headlight, one bolt inside the top of the fender, one in the middle rear inside the fender, and two bolts under the rear bottom.
hope that explains good enough,
DG
