I have heard nothing but good things about this:
Clicky Little bit of maintenance involved, but should fix the problem. This post has been edited by ConeTrouble: Mar 5, 2004 - 12:20 AM |

What do you mean the bearing seperates? Which bearing? If its pulling, it sounds like you might have bigger problems.

i looked in my haynes manual (i know, they suck) and in their terms when i jack the car up, the spring seat drops out of the suspension support. it looks like there's a little press fit bearing that should prevent this from happening like on all the other sides. do you think that may be the problem with the pulling? that seems to be the problem because it only started happening after i got the ground control's. what do you think? thanks |

It sounds like what you are talking about is a rubber grommet that nests on both ends of the spring. One sits in the underside of the top hat, and the other on the bottom of the shock. If it is pulling away from the perch, then you might have your GCs compressed too far or something. You might need a helper spring. Not sure, though, hard to tell from your description. I don't know of any bearing in there. You running stock shocks? |

the parts that are seperating are at the top of the spring. the plate with the bolts pressed into and the little plate that is pressed underneath it that the spring pushes up on (if that makes sense). my guess is that since you don't know what i'm talking about those two parts shouldn't be seperated. can i get the assembly at like an autozone or will i have to go to the dealer for it? and can you guys tell me what the part is actually called so i don't sound like such a dumbass.

I think you're talking about the upper strut mount. There should be that, then the upper spring perch you got with the ground controls, with a big flat thrust bearing inbetween (its black). These three pieces are all suppoed to come apart. The bearing fits up into a little cup in the strut mount and the GC perch just kinda sits on the bearing. Its a really poorly designed system (on GC's part) and thats why it pops. The real and proper fix to it is to get camber plates and pillow ball mounts. I'll be doing this soon and might be able to offer a few up for sale.
I think your car is ok from your last description. As long as its as I described above then all is normal and you don't need any parts. As far as the pull goes...you have to be very careful when you take the car down off the jack that the perch, bearing, and strut mount all go together as they're supposed to. Once the car is on the ground, bounce it a few times to make sure (You'll hear a LOUD pop if they weren't). At this point you should only hear popping noises when turning the steering wheel. I only hear it at low speeds when turning sharp, like in parking lots. If these symptoms don't fit your car, then something else is up. |
