So I was screwing around with my headlights the other day, and I came across an interesting idea: What if I stuck my brights 9005 headlights in the 9006 place to make them brighter? Turns out its a perfect fit (with a little jiggle)

be careful you don't burn out your wires and bulbs those 9005's are 65w where the 9006's are 55w. That extra power may cause some problems.

no, I have a wire harness and I took the 9005 wire w/ bulb and pluged it into the 9006 slot!

Ok im editing everything. Are you talking about HID? Cuz its impossible to get the lumen out put of an HID with halogen lights.

I doubt the difference between 55 and 65W would matter, but I'd always heard that those 90/100 or 100/110W bulbs you see a lot would burn out your wiring. I got a set with some H4 conversion parts I bought for my miata and decided to try it and see what happened. I kept a close watch on the wiring and it never got hot, did blow any fuses, didn't catch fire, etc. The bulbs suck a55 and I'm not sure they're really what they say they are, but in my case, they didn't burn anything up. YMMV. |

ok, it is kinda street legal, i did it to mine a wekk after i bought my car.. you dont have to mess with the wires, all you have to do is.. in side the plastic peace of the bulb, there isa plastic tab, just melt it or somthint o get ride of...then plug right in... The reason it is brighter, is because the low beam bulbs have a cap on them, and the high's dont.... simple as that... an it does help

....While screaming that youre an a$$hole inside the car. ![]() Seriously though, I dont get it why some of you guys insist on risking other drivers' safety at night to have obnoxiously bright (and illegal, im sure) headlights. risk other drivers saftey? i dont really mean to sound like an a$$, but if someone driving at you with their high beams on causes you to get into an accident or something, your an idiot, and it was going to happen anyway... when someone drives at you with their high beams on, its annoying for a second, then they're gone... its not like your brakes going or something.... -------------------- ![]() |

when i first started driving i almost hit some one, cause a driver on the other lane had their highs on. it wasn't like i could avoid looking at their lights on.. so i looked away for a second and in that second some one was crossing the street and i was heading right at them.. and i missed hitting them by inches... so driving with your high on is not good.. i was lucky that night...so was the person crossing the street -------------------- |

Yeah, driving with your high beams on is not cool...especially if you're following someone, because there's not much that they can do. They can't flash you or anything. If you guys want to "floss" your cars, I suggest city lights in your high beams.
![]() Oh, and about running the higher wattage bulbs, the safe thing to do would be to install a couple SPDT automotive relays and run new wires to the headlights that are a thicker gauge. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

I had the idea that if you were low enough to where family cars could blind you fron behind, that some brighter bulbs wouldn't even make it TO the other driver's eves...

They're used for all kinds of stuff relating to alarms. A SPDT relay is used to power something when some circuit is activated, without drawing much power from that circuit. For example, say you have 20 neon lights on your car. You want all of them to turn on and stay on while your dome light stays on when you unlock your car. If you draw power for all of those neon lights from the dome-light power wire, chances are that you'll blow a fuse, melt a wire, mess up a circuit, or maybe even light your car on fire. If you simply hook up that dome-light power wire to the coil of a relay, it only draws 30 milliamps or so, and then the power for the neon lights can come straight from the battery. Adding neon lights to your illuminated entry of your alarm, adding cooling fans to your remote turn on wire from your radio, making your headlights brighter, making your own remote start system, making power door locks interface with an alarm unit, rolling up your windows when you arm your alarm, creating a starter kill for your alarm, and making your radio stay on after the ignition is off until a door is opened are just a few of the applications of SPDT relays.
