hello
simple question I have ask my mates one thinks its to do with engine number other thinks its grand turing. what does GT stand for ? what does it do? -------------------- |

I had always assumed it meant Grand Touring. What does it do? It makes your car have more horsepower.

GT first meant Gran Turismo, like the game. And i think that means Grand Touring.

GT -Grand Touring normally because the race cars with such badging were designed for endurance racing..

GT4 is called that because the GT4 is all wheel drive i.e. 4 wheel drive. so the long version would be "Grand Touring 4 Wheel Drive" |

st means sports touring gt means ground touring. the (first gen) celica also came in other exterior packages such as: extra touring, luxury touring... |

Of course it's not rocket science that's easy stuff, we're trying to figure out acronyms that don't actually have a meaning like what does EX, DX, HX, LX, Si, and what does the M mean in M Roadster, M3, and M5 or MX-5. Also what does SLT , LT, XLT mean. I do know you can cram a rocket in a 7th Gen. though, lol.

Probe GT's are slow? Sure they're no 911 Carerra GT (*NOTE* VERY fast) but at 164hp/160 torque (at realitively low RPM ranges) and a V6 engine they can keep up with a lot of cars.
BTW don't post a story about beating a probe GT is you have any sort of turbo on your car...I would hope you could beat a Probe with a turbo Don't forget the Mustang GT with it's V8 215/285 hp/torque. I'm not saying that GT = REALLY F*CKING FAST, but it also does not mean the car is all hype. GT is nothing more than a label, true...and I guess I have just been rambling on about meaningless things...but give me a break it's 2:30AM here and I can't sleep so I go to 6gc...i need help  EDIT: ok I re-read darksecret's post and realized he was just saying about how sometimes they label slwo cars "GT"...sorry for the long post attempting to correct him...he's right. The old Excel on the other hand had the same engine bay design as the Evo I believe. I use to sell Hyundais and those things are Slow. The Elantra GT uses a CVVT variant of the Mitsubishi 2.0 Litre. With the GT thing, basically when I hear GT I think of a car that's fast andcan handle pretty well like Skyline GT, Ford GT, Carrera GT, the Mustang GT might not be able to handle but they are strong in a straight line. That is why I but the Probe GT in the lower line up, yes it's somewhat quick but the Probe isn't exactly a track star, the Sunfire GT based on weight can give the Probe GT a nice run for it's money and is more nimble around corners also.
