Well I finally went out and bought myself a new car with the insurance money from my totalled Celica ($5000). After shopping around for a few days I found a really nice '95 del Sol Si with under 90,000 miles that was painted red. I got it for $3500 and now I have $1500 to spend on the car. I'll get some pics up in a few days after I get my camera back from my friend.

Only bad thing is that the car has a giant spoiler on the back but I'll have that off by the time I get the camera back.

See you guys, I enjoyed my time here and even though I didn't get another Celica, I still might lurk around here.

Oh yes, and I do plan on swapping the del Sol engine to a bigger one so that I can actually get a decently fast car.

Sorry to bust your bubble but this car has more power and is lighter than the Celica, although I probably would lose to my dead '94 ST in a straightaway race with my torqueless wonder.

Oh and I'm not a sellout ks. The Celica ST is slow, I came to that realization a while back, and the only way to make it fast is spend $4000 on a 3SGTE swap or $1000-5000 on turboing custom, and there isn't really that much after market support for the Celica. I really loved my car and I miss it, even though I'm driving this del Sol now, I would have rather had kept my car than have to get another one. Besides, I will probably spend less money swapping/turboing the car than I would have with the Celica because it is so easy to find Honda parts and they aren't that expensive + my dad has the hookups at several junkyards and the guy will give me parts for free because he's tight like that.

And what do you mean hooked up? Riced out cars aren't fast, that giant spoiler doesn't do anything for the car than make it look like I'm a moron driving around with it on. It'll be off by tommorow, I can guarantee that.

Besides I could get a Prelude engine or GSR engine or wutever Honduh people swap into their cars, and I do plan on turboing it too.

Oh yeah, and Tercels will not outrun del Sols, maybe a Paseo Sport will, but a Tercel is just... lol...

My wannabe Miata? Miata's were ugly back in the day, the newer ones are nice now. Oh and I don't gotta pay extra on my insurance because my car isn't considered drop top, its a hardtop according to them biggrin.gif And the reason I didn't buy a Civic is because the del Sol looks a lot nicer and is lighter than the coupe Civic (I can't stand hatchbacks).

And the day I see a Tercel outrun my del Sol Si is the day Arnold Swarzenegger is the President of the World wink.gif not just California tongue.gif

To the rest of you guys, I do plan on taking some pics so you can see my car and I plan on swapping the engine and getting a buddy club bodykit put on (no spoiler) so that when I get the turbo put in I'll just have a fmic that'll look nice.

kuruptedsnake, I think your just jealous rolleyes.gif

Nice. Dude, take some pictures i wanna see! Chop chop!
I used to want a del sol, but I fell in love with the mr2. My friend has one and whenever he drove me around back in my hs days it made me feel cool being a two-seater!

People should stop bashing on hondas and show some respect. There are a good amount of hondas out there that would totally destroy our celica =( Nowadays, I'm seeing less and less rice on hondas and more of the jdm rice.

You should customize your car based on your own preferences, not on others.

Matter of fact your gonna be that way get your tired ass off the site. If his motor has the rare V-Tec that they put in, hes ride will puncture your colon...face it princess your ST will NEVER hang with V-tec w/o serious mods.
Good job bro, I intrust you to make it a nice ride we'll miss you.

I use to have a del sol SI. It was an auto, and it was ok fast. Cool little cars, but the 2 seats play out pretty fast. Have fun with it though, days when its hot you just pull over and throw the roof in the trunk.

Also, its fun fitting 4 people into the car tongue.gif

I don't think the H22 will fit in a Civic/Del Sol(they started as the Civic Del Sol when they first came out because they're based on the Civic). But the B18 will fit no problem.

Congrats on getting a new ride. I'm sure with a little suspension upgrade you'll have lots of fun with it.

Congrats on the Del Sol man. Theyre great cars. PM me if you wanna sell that wing. I'd like some pics 1st but im interested in buying it. Some cars look ricey w/ one, but it just depends. I've been thinking of getting one, although i prefer the shogun wings. Good luck w/ your car.

alright.... to clear some misconceptions (i do this a lot on this board, lol)..

the del sol is one of the HEAVIEST smaller cars that honda makes.... i believe it's even heavier than the 3rd gen integras..... the del sol is NOT lighter than any of the civics.... why? it's small!! because of the removable hardtop -- the body needs more supports & bracing to withstand the stresses of daily driving for where it's lost in the detachable roof..... imagine trying to build a rollcage that was only 2 feet tall.... that would take a LOT of piping to do the same with a rollcage that extends to the roof

that being said.... the SI has the sohc vtec motor... not the best platform to start on, but a decent one... (forgot that the del sol vtec has the b16, not the si....)

not to knock the car... but it is kind of a chick car...... although i have fun driving my moms del sol (yes, she has a 95 si), i feel hella girly every time i get in it..... lol

and as far as handling... they handle like a honda.... and a 95 auto si isn't any faster than my 90 corolla with a 4a-fe was

also... don't get any rock chips.... the body in those cars flex a LOT.... even with the roof closed...

we've replaced the windshield two times already.... a small rock chip becomes a crack going all directions very quickly in those cars

Hey, good luck with the new car man. wink.gif Dont worry what anybody says about it, you can make Del-Sol's look great. It has some excellent engine possibilities, tons of exterior options, etc...just keep it simple and clean looking and you can be sure to get (almost) anybodys respect.

WHAT?!

Simple.

Man, I'm gonna have the blitz bodykit with a 4 foot tall wing with stickers all over my car and 20" spreewells. Man, and I'm gonna remove the passenger seat and put in like 2 12" speakers and NOS, and twin turbos, and put on green neons and vinyl all over my car. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, all I plan on doing right now is basic stuff, making the redding out the tails, exhaust, intake, lowering, then prolly gonna put a buddyclub kit on it with no spoiler and some decent 16" rims, then later on work on the engine, maybe swap it, or even turbo, who knows smile.gif

And Andason, just for you I'm gonna stick a NAWZ sticker on my back window wink.gif

Any flaws that car has are the same North American Celicas have..

They're heavier than Civics. They weigh roughly 2500 pounds... which is roughly 100 pounds more than a Civic hatch (they're about the same weight as a Civic coupe). Integras are around 2600-2800 depending on trim. It's not heavier by 700-800 pounds... I mean... that will put it around 3200 pounds... ;] The whole deal is, it's not an overly heavy car... but it's very heavy for its size.

And... the Del Sol SI has the VTEC D16. Nothing too special... but still has potential to be faster than his previous car. The cool Del Sol would be the Del Sol VTEC, with the B16...

If the honda guys can manage to fit H22's into CRX's... a Del Sol should be no problem...;] anyways... it's most likely already been done.

ok first off, do a little research about cars before you go off, ok, the del-sol is lighter , yes lighter then the celicas, also has a better tranny, therfore the v-tec also even the si would probley beat any celi first. They do look a lil girlie, but there still sweet ass cars, the only one ive drivin was my buddys 97 v-tec, yes the rare one... i like it, if it was a little wider or even bigger i would def drop the celi... not to bash on celi's but dont try to start bashing on del-sol's..... just be happy for the man... cause thats the last thing he wants is for people to bash on him... sorry guys i know this is a lil overdone, but after a hard long day of school, im kinda getting angree.....

good luck, oh where are some pics????

ok first off, do a little research about cars before you go off, ok, the del-sol is lighter , yes lighter then the celicas, also has a better tranny, therfore the v-tec also even the si would probley beat any celi first. They do look a lil girlie, but there still sweet ass cars, the only one ive drivin was my buddys 97 v-tec, yes the rare one... i like it, if it was a little wider or even bigger i would def drop the celi... not to bash on celi's but dont try to start bashing on del-sol's..... just be happy for the man... cause thats the last thing he wants is for people to bash on him... sorry guys i know this is a lil overdone, but after a hard long day of school, im kinda getting angree.....

good luck, oh where are some pics????

i do know about the car.... my mom has a 95 del sol SI... and it's around as fast/slow as a 1990 corolla sr5 with a 4a-fe.... trust me, i've driven BOTH several times..... plus, my neighbor back home has a 92 gsr and was the one who told me about the weight issue.... and seeing how he's been in the import scene and 99% into honda's & b series motors since he bought the car (in 1991), i would say he knows what he's talking about......

but my 4a-ge now is much quicker than her del sol..... the del sol does handle well... which is why i said "it handles like a honda"..... they have good factory suspension.....

and i'm not going off.... lol... if you see it as such then you're reading too much into it tongue.gif

How about you do some research...? Del Sols are light... but not for their size. They weigh in the 2500 pound neighborhood (moderately loaded SI models) and that, is heavier than a Civic hatchback, which is between 2100-2400 pounds depending on trim (EG Civic hatchback models) Coupes weigh roughly 50-60 pounds more. A 6gc Celica, which is far larger, weighs between 2400-2600. Yes, they do have shorter geared trannies, which make better use of their power, but that was never a question. Bringing it up is pointless. As far as I can tell, aside from the stupid fawks who said stupid things, no one has bashed the Del Sol.

Overall... the Del Sol is a nice little car... impractical, but nice. The SI trim isn't exactly what I'd choose, but if the owner is happy with it, that's all that matters. It has its ups and downs, in terms of performance, but when compared vs. a 6th gen, It far surpasses in terms of aftermarket support. IMO, honda makes the best n/a engines...

pppphhhhhttttt... have you completely forgotten about the 20R, the 22R, and the 18rg's?! they could be built for boost.... or you can bore those things out like it's nothing... and for some reason they NEVER die..... and although it's not the greatest these days... the 4ag's are still pretty potent n/a motors (including the smallport, the silvertop, and the blacktops)

heheh... we should stay on topic... but I'll have to disagree. The old R series has its limits... which are far far sooner than a built K20A or B18C or F20 any day... ;] and these engine will shine on the track, where it matters most. HP per liter anyone?... not meaning the 20R/22Rs don't match up... but those things are old-school. You're beginning to sound like the biased toyota-only kids on here... ;]

yep... guilty

although.... for n/a purposes... honda has been able to build great high revving motors & transmissions to gear it correctly.....

but come on.... i drove my 4a-fe with a blown head gasket for over 3,000 miles... and at the end it had been about 7,000 miles since an oil change (still wasn't low)..... along with that, my old tranny when i broke it... i was able to drive over 100 miles w/o any first or 2nd gear.... i can't not go toyota after those experiences, lol

I guess I have to put in my own 2 cents in this. I have a friend that owns a 93 Del Sol with a little 1.5 l engine. It can hold its own against mine stock. The Del Sol is a finely manufactured vehicle but I do hate them. Honda can make decent cars but they are not as good nor as finely manufactured as Toyota. Phat_Boi I give you credit for trying to find a fast car, but you just sucked all of the fun out of owning a car. You are just like all of the old people that buy the stupid RX8's. They want power fast with out any work. Half of the fun of the Celica is working on it (even though most of our cars dont need work, we do it for the fun and to make it a little bit faster) Kudos on the purchase but I'm sorry I hate what you bought. In a way you did sell out but hey, you got what you want and thats all that matters. Have fun with your new car and keep in touch. Peace.

Cody

*EDIT* Sorry when I said "mine" I meant my Celica. smile.gif God I swear I am retarded some times.

No doubt toyota makes a rock solid engine... but that doesn't mean Honda does not. Take VTEC for example... moving pins and rockers in the head, designed to operate at and beyond 6000 rpms, all covered under warantee. Honda has to have a lot of faith in their products. Also consider, Skunk2 has built some of the quickest FF drag cars out of Hondas (10-11 seconds n/a BABY!), with stock cranks that live up to and beyond 10,000 rpms. In a daily driver... they should last as long as toyotas... albeit, Hondas do tend to drink oil after a while (200k miles long while). Maybe in the old days, pre OBD1... they weren't as reliable as Toyotas... but now a days, they're just as reliable. If you look at all of the new low-maintence engines, both Toyota and Honda have gone with timing chains, which eliminate a very large engine maintenece hassle...

I too have a history with Toyotas... 300K miles on a 3AC AE82 rolla... a truck that's still hualing junk after 20 years, running perfect with the immortal 22R, and various others. My family is strictly toyota... but I'm not ignorant enough to say that makes toyota the absolute best, or would make me look down on other makes and models.

sell the Si and get the Si VTEC!

hehe, it won't matter if you are swapping in a B18C1 (GSR motor) anyways. Good luck with the del sol, i love them.

screw it all man. LOL, just go out and buy an MR2. Haha. Just kidding. Although style wise, they're both somewhat similar, but I'm not sure about performance and weight and all that. But definite congrats on the Del Sol. I always did like those cars. I'd say that and the Prelude are the only hondas I'd be caught dead in. biggrin.gif Have fun, and definitely stick around the forums and put some pics up. It's good stuff.

I hope that isn't sarcastic. That guy gains a lot of respect from me for his innovation. That car is something that everyone should respect, not because that Star Wars is for dorks or whatever the stereotype is but that someone had the brilliance to do that themselves.

That and he really really butched that Honda biggrin.gif

no comparison between a del sol vtec and an mr2 turbo..... mr2 is probably the same weight, but mid engine RWD.... MUCH bettter for handling.... and a b16 would have no chance against a 3s-gte

but that star wars del sol.... holy ****.... i give that guy credit.... he dropped some serious money into that project and paid attention to detail...... that geek has done more in his geekdom than like 90% of people in most the online forums i'm on have done to their cars, lol
