Is it just me or do these cars get an obscene amount of wheel hop.
if i launch and get the tires spinning the car hops. i find it very hard to race because of this. every single time i spin the tires the car hops like a mofo.
what could be the problem and how do i fix it?

If you are racing, and getting that much tire spin then you must be revving really high. I never get wheel hop. Mabey you should check your tires. Could be over inflated.

get a 3sgte and then complain of wheel hop... my **** does it like crazy, even without launching.... bad springs or shock absorbers i suppose... just upgrade your suspension and you should be fine

rev it to 1200 and get wheel hop

You're revving it to low, hahahaha.

I used to have the same experience with my 95. Personally, with good tires, i got a great start with 4500, i'm sure i could've fine tuned myself a little bit more, but i never got the chance....dang guy ran me into a median.

That's what i think, everyonce in a while, i don't mean to get a race start (like at a stop light all by my self), and i really wanted to just go forward, haha. So that means my rpm's were around 2500 or so, and i get wheel hop. What are your rpms when you get your wheel hop?

and also, tell me exactly what you do, like after you dump the clutch, do you slam the gas down, and stuff like that.

Well, the rain is common smartz, haha. Less friction. I would say hyping your rpm's up some more when you get off the line, that should get rid of the low rpm wheel hop, if you're putting more power to the wheels at once, then it also creates less friction, and then of course cetchs, you're at a high rpm, and you're off!!

What physics class did you take? That doesn't make any sense at all.

i didn't read it after i wrote it, sorry, haha. I should've said, if you put more power to the wheels at once, and create spin, the friction is lost. But, it will come back, and that's your start. Does that make more sence. I think i might be confusing my self, but i'm sure he gets the idea

yeah i got the idea. i tried launching at 3000 and the tires spun but no wheel hop. the only thing is its quicker not launching because i get too much spin

just kinda play with the launches and how much gas you put in after you launch

i also forgot to tell you, if you're racing, or just want to play around even more, let a little air out of your front tires.

let air out of your tires = step one
rev up to around 2000 rpm with the clutch out far enough that its grabbing and you let out anymore your goin to move= step two
light turns green dump the clutch hit the gas you might even do this at a lil lower maybe not sure yet = step 3

one, it isn't exactly a good idea to be doing that at stop lights, and also, driving around with a lower pressure all the time. that's why i said playing around and stuff. Two, he's already getting wheel hop under 2000. So i would say 2500 or 3000 again with the lowered pressure in the tires.

keep the pressure right in normal street tires. lowering the pressure will not help you launch. You will actually be riding on LESS tire thread if the pressure is too low (the outsides of the tire). Now if you have drag slicks its a different story.

i doubt it has anything to do with his acceleration. dude, its probably time to upgrade your struts/springs. your car is 10 years old. sounds like most likely your struts are blown.

Actually you should set your tire pressures fairly high. It won't really affect launches that much (more tire pressure = less contact patch) so you might get a bit more wheelspin, but having a hire pressure tire means you will get less flex in the tire-wall and therefore better handling.

Also with more tire grip the car will be more likely to hop, as it is more difficult to get the tires spinning. This usually happens if you give enough power to get the wheels spinning, but not enough to keep them there.. so the car jumps between the wheels spinning and having traction.

If you drop the clutch at say 3,500 rpms and spin the wheels, when you notice the wheelspin slowing, lift off the power a bit, then floor it once you have traction. If you just hold the pedal as the rpm drop down, the car will prolly hop.
