by now we have a few members on here that did the 3sgte swap and about a million that dream about having it.

for all those who have a 3sgte in their fwd, tell us all the things you like and all the things you dont like about the 3sgte. please describe in detail your 1st impressions, street racing, and daily driving in your swapped celica and compare it to how things were before you got the swap. include pics and videos if you can! smile.gif

Well i havent raced it yet, but its hella faster.
Ridiculously faster. Knowing I can beat alot of cars that are so common on the import scene is nice.
Downfall...more can go wrong. Engine is more complex. I worry about the tranny. I will until i get something stronger.

what about the power, does it makes the body rumble a lot more making it feel unstable, or is it still okay?

i mean, i've been in cars where the power from the engine just makes everything feel unstable.
basically, is the smooth quality still there if you want it, or does it just feel like a rocket?

Also, what's the gas mileage like? I know its not that big of a deal because chances are if you can afford the swap then you can afford to fill the tank up with premium and often, but I was just curious.

Gas mileage decreases because youve got a new engine and are going faster and stuff...plus its a performance engine, not an eco engine.

And i dont feel like the car is unstable....I turned the boost up something nasty and it threw me back into my seat. Yes i was sitting down at the time...and it THREW ME. THREW ME I TELL YOU!

Stability is the same... just faster...

Gas mileage is the same. But if I drive hard... I can waste gas much faster than if I were driving with a 7A.

Someone compared boosting the 7A at around 5-7psi to running a 75 wet shot of nitrous all the time. Sounds pretty fun.. I couldn't imagine what a 3s swap would feel like..

how about daily driving and driving in the rain? right now i shift my 5sfe at 4,000rpm and cruise at around 3,000. does this change with a 3sgte? what about when its raining, do you have to be very carefull and shift early to avoid loosing traction?

I don't think about it when driving in the rain... you're not driving the car like a psychopath all the time... you learn to drive it normally and you instinctively compensate in poor weather conditions.

I did race a VW R32 this morning tho. He was pulling on me, but baaaarely... just inching away slowly. That was pretty cool considering my car is definitely not running to potential right now (running about 11:1 AFR under boost).

You know what I've been wondering? I'd really like to know what other people think when I smoke them on the freeway. A lot of people don't expect our 6th gen's to be that fast... especially those that do H22 or EG6 swaps. On my way up to San Mateo this past weekend, this prelude and accord tried to race me. It was funny seeings them get smaller and smaller in my rear view mirror. A volvo S60 even instigated a race on the Bay Bridge... it was pretty fast... but I still smoked him. I smoked him twice because he kept trying to race. After the second time... I just let him fly off because I didn't want to waste gas or risk getting a ticket.

I didn't get to see the reaction of the dude in the prelude and accord. But the guy in the Volvo was PISSED! LOL!! I looked at him when I slowed down the first time I smoked him... and he gave me this WTF? look and that Fawk U look! hahahaha

Another time, this chick was driving a civic revved on me and tried pulling away. I don't shifted... and pulled next to her and look at both her and her boyfriend. I just smiled... blew off... and gunned it. Then I slowed down... and the boyfriend gave me a thumbs up.

I'd really like to know what a lot of those people think tho. I've only seen reactions from two people that I've ran. I must say that the look on the Volvo kid's face was hilarious (Imagine an ugly asian kid busting out with the look that The Rock always does). Hahahaha I still can't get that look out of my head... it was just too funny...

yeah so I could further humiliate myself by showing the rest of the world what god-awful sounds my car makes... Here's the sound of turning a corner and taking off:

Idle: chug chug chug..KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK (sound of my exhaust pipe hitting cuz the engine is running too rough)..
Turning a corner: rrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOW *SCRREEEECH* (power steering growling and squeeking).
Taking off: vvvvvvvrrroooooooOOOOOOMMM KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK GUH GUH GUH *CHIRP* vroooooooOOOOOM PSSSSSH

I really gotta tune the fuel curve on this thing. The idle is horrible and combine that with lightweight flywheel and stiff pressure plate and it makes it difficult to take off sometimes.

Lagos...I love reading the threads you start because you ask very good pre-swap questions. (this one and the traction one come to mind) They help us guys that are heading that way....smiles. BTW, I completed my profile today despite the fact that the car won't be finished until July....A pic of my car in stock form is on its way in a couple days....but who wants to see that?

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I dont have 300whp now, but thats what im aiming for. From the researh ive gathered the stock internals should be able to hold up if they dont, I dont mind yanking the engine out again and installing the forgies. but yes to acheive 300 to the ground, u will need to go with the supra injectors. And a bigger turbo will be needed as well. this is the one im thinking about getting next summer Street brawler and it should put me right where i want to be

Nice turbo, but rather expensive, stage 2 hybrids for the 3sgte cost about $1700 dollars over here and are effective up to 1.6 bar, but the brawler will have plenty in reserve!

wat about blitz 850cc injectors?
