Hehe, thats the thing. The ad doesn't say if it is an ST or GT it just says "1997 TOYOTA Celica, 5sp, low mileage, neon blue, fully loaded, pw, pm, pdl, cruise, a/c, CD changer, spoiler, chrome rimes, tint, new tires, inspection report, no accidents, immac. cond." So I am going to find out tomorrow. It is $12,400 CAD if that helps on whether or not it is a GT/ST. Although, it wont matter to me whether or not it is a GT or ST because I will not be racing.

From that ad pic, it looks to me like a Coupe with a two post spoiler. It probably is an ST because it doesn't have fog lights. Those are just my guesses from the one pic, but if they're right, that price might be a little high...so I'd definately try to talk it down.

Edit: didn't mean to sound negative...thats a cool color and would be a great car either way.

Ya, thats the one. Is there really a big difference between an ST and GT? Can you feel the 40hp difference a lot? and would I even need the GT if I wasnt going to race it or anything? I found some other Celicas that are from 1995 and they are GT's for about $10,000CAD but they just dont look as clean. Thanks for the help smile.gif

I think really its more like a 30 hp difference isnt it? st's had something like 115 crank, and gt 135?

correction, st's got 110 at the crank for 94 / 95, all others got 105. Gt's got 135 to the crank unless u got the california emission restricted one which is 130.

small children

12400? Thats not a good deal for a couple guys. For a vert it's acceptable- but verts add on 4k to the price! Unless this car has like, 20k miles on it.

if you can find a GT, you're much more the better.

either way, the car is fun to drive, it's not really popular for it's speed. the head design is meant for fuel economy, not for racing or high revving.

with a GT you could easily swap in a 3SGTE which is a turbo'd toyota motor with about 225hp and enough kick to last you a life time.

with a ST, a little extra work is involved to get the engine in there.. but it is still very possible. or, you can use a 160(roughly)hp 4AG(Z)E supercharged toyota motor.

so, the only true way to put down some bad assed power with our cars is to usually swap the engine out. very costly to build up our engines in stock form, and some people will argue that it's not worth the effort.

if you want to BS about the 6gc, hit me up on aim as sinner0423 or yahoo with the same name.. i've owned the car for about a year and i can tell you some stuff about it.

Only in a drag race. I've beaten a newer Z28 in the twisties. Stock Civics are fairly easy as well(except the Si). Not to mention Saturns.
Although Preludes/Integras/Eclipses can take me on a straight.
I've had mine 5 years this June. The power is lacking sometimes, but it's still a nice car, and very fun to drive.

I was really picky on finding my celica

To me, that isnt worth it because its a coupe (no offense coupe people, i just like hatchbacks better) I dont like the color, and its too expensive.

If you look around for a while you can find a celi with all theo ptions you want, the price, and the color smile.gif

Well I settled on the color by getting teal but I love it now smile.gif

yes.. this is what makes the car really shine, is the way it handles, and feels.

the only complaint you will ever hear about our cars is the fact that they dont go fast enough. otherwise, they are really great at doing everything else.

That is $12,400 CAD, so that only $8,900 US... still a bit high but not unheard of

yeah, i don't think there is any difference in hatch vs coupe in handling. if anything, i believe the coupe is maybe a few inches longer than the hatchback. not sure about weight tho.

dunno if any of you coupe owners have been in a hatchback, but i can guarantee we both agree on the fact that our back seats have little to no purpose. there is not that much of a difference between them.

I saw that someone posted that coupes dont look as good as h/b's and that the coupe wasnt clean. Take a gander at mine, i think its very clean. Also mine is a GT and it doesnt have fog lights. Handling wise it does still handle very well but you can feel its a kinda big car. I have tower braces in the front and rear and the help, but going from the stock wheels to my 17s made the car ALOT stiffer. I had a prelude with 4 wheel steering before my celi and the prelude handled alot better. As for the performance on my GT coupe i think its great, i would not get an ST even if you dont race. Its just always nice to have the power. I have taken a 7th gen celica GT-S with mine but they must have had an auto because they do have more power. Civics and neons are a joke cause there engines are so small. Its always funny when you are at a light and someone in a "Pimped out" civic pulls up next to you thinking they are all cool. Then i smoke them with my stock GT celi. Preludes and GTI's with the VR6 probably will still beat you. A normal 2.0 gti is easily beaten, i have yet to race a 1.8T though. So you go for the GT but coupe or hb is sweet.
