What would you rather have?

a 97-98 mitibushi gsx, or do a 3sgte swap.?

GSX

Pros:Looks good, Fast stock, easily tuned.
Cons:Bad tranny's? easily to break?, alot around

3sgte:
Pros: Fast, Rare, strong engines
Cons:FWD

mitsu pros i agreed
cons they have a tick in the engine, burn oil, and are played out by f&f

3sgte pros only a handful of people have them, you'll surprise the 5h!+ out of people when you blow by them, Unlimited potential with the 3s

cons fwd but who cares.... you have civics doing 10 second qm's with fwd. put some slicks on and call it a day

Id take either, Id prefer a celica with a 3sgte and gt4 styling. But I think I might save for a Supra for my next car biggrin.gif

I had a GSX and a FWD just wouldn't do for me when it comes to speed. Nothing would beat that car. But.... it must be babied.

Great quote
"DSM's... making mechanics out of normal people since 1989"

AND NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
That F&F eclipse was NOT a GSX... It was a RS!!!!!!! A turbo'd 420A DODGE NEON ENGINE! AHHHHHHHHHHH... I hated it when people referred to that as my car. Mine never burned oil nor had ticks... i sold it with 150k on it. And DSMs have great trannys ... if you drive manual... otherwise the first statement is true - Autos really suck.

i would look at it in terms of funds (if thats important to you) the aftermarket for a gsx is greater and much more easily attainable. plus the engine is already in the car and you wont have any little quirks. right now both chrebis and super are still working out some probs. but overall 3sgte celli rules

Great quote
"DSM's... making mechanics out of normal people since 1989"

hey...i think i said that quote!

anyway, i was faced with the same decision a few weeks back. the gsx is a great car and perfect car to tune. the only real bad thing is crankwalk and the fact that you may be forced to swap your engine anyway.

you have to look at how much time, money and effort you have invested into your celica already and how much more you are willing to put in.
in my case, my car looks nothing like it did the day i bought it. people drool over it anywhere i drive. the only thing i didnt like about it was the lack of power, so i decided to buy a 3sgte. so now it will have the go for the show. i know it will never be awd, but awd, rwd and fwd all have their drawbacks.

anyone can go out and buy a gsx, but only you can build the car of your dreams. think about it this way, would you get more props for having a gsx or a turbo celica that you built?

dont get me wrong...i LOVE DSMs. they are the best bang for the buck.
anyway...the choice is yours.

the RS in the F&F wasn't turbocharged I don't think. it just had a hugely expensive nitrous setup. (that's what the little highlight on the F&F web page said.) it also said it's 1/4th time was 14.0! LOL

i just checked insurance quotes on a 1999 GSX 5spd

$700 a year full coverage

ahhh, the beauty of AWD and how much it helps with insurance:D

just thought i would throw that out, because insurance is usually a factor that is overlooked when buying a car

If you want the reliablity of a toyota go 3s.

My friend has a 96 Gsx and he has all kinds of trouble with it, every 2 weeks it something new. It rides like crap compaired to my car, but still handles good. When I ride in it it sounds like its about to fall apart. It is really fast, and won't spin at all no matter what we try to do.

Insurance depends on your age too, my friend pays like $200 a month for full coverage and that is the cheapest he can get.

The RS in F&F was turbo by the look. When they popped the hood, you could see it on the top of the manifold. Otherwise a 10,000 dollar fuel management system really wouldn't be that great of a benefit. Also, you could hear the BOV when he shifted... all of those cars had turbos.
Hear is something for ya.. watch the first scene with him and the eclipse on the track. Count the shifts smile.gif .... 6 shifts and 7 when he puts it in reverse!!! No wonder he spun out... its in reverse!!!!! But enough about that movie... its overtalked the way it is. Back to DSMs.

I agree that the DSM is a "bang for the buck" car. Great vehicle, easily tunable... and AWD. Its not good for show (burn outs) but theres no greater feeling than waxin' a Cobra or SS Camaro off the line in a 210+ hp 4 banger.

And crankwalk isn't a problem! It only happened in a very small amount of cars. I've owned 2 (95 and 96) and never saw anything. Also, no one I know.. about 10 more of them.. have ever experienced crankwalk. Dont let this discourage you from ever getting a dsm.

No... had mine for about a year and the only problem I had was the crank pulley going bad. The rubber seal eventually hardened and broke apart making the pulley wobble. But at 140k miles, its not that unexpected. I replaced it with a UR pulley set and she was good to go.

I know really no one else on here likes DSMs but I do miss mine.
oh and 00+ eclipse are the worst - dont waste your time looking into them

I would also go with a 2002 STi or 04 Evo VIII if I had 30+ grand laying around
