I got no problem sharing the info. You guys have been good to me, and have answered all my questions in past posts.
Latches are decah made for a honda civic. They bolt right up to the frames bolt pattern. You got to grind everything flat where they bolt on. Where the latches connect to the door is the problem. Nothing bolts up. Sure you can drill holes, but the back is not reinforced like the oem mounting plate. The latches look bulky, but there not to bad. To open the door, the door goes out a few inches, then straight up. You can actually get out when the door opens up before it goes up. The strut is so strong, the door goes up effortless. Im still working on them, and for some reason Im extremely tired this weekend. Ill keep you guys posted with pics when im done. |

The latches ran me 700 on ebay. They were a steal! They run from 800 to 1200 usually. Never buy street dreams. They are made for kitcars with horizontal mounting latches not vertical like our cars. I would recommend decahs. You cant beat their quality, and their stronger then hell. My door goes up with 1 finger.
Tools needed: power drill grinder/disc cutter electric dremel center punch 12-13mm sockets/wrench homemade L brackets 4 self tapping screws eye protection I also modified the latches by elongating the mounting holes and grinding down the part where both arms meet to give me a little more play. the homemade L brackets are temporary, and they just hold the door in place while you pull off the stock hinges. |

Good ???? I would have to say the 2000 celica might bolt right up. I believe my latches were 96-99 honda civic. This would be good for someone with welding skills to try. In case you got to weld a little plate here and there.

looks good, decah is coming out with a 6gc kit in the near future. but if that falls through a universal kit will be out.
all the decah kits should allow you to enter and exit the car without lifting the door up. madmods, if possible try to find out the weight of a civic 2 door, door and compare it to our doors for safety reasons. i delt with vertical doors alot and i still do. there are many cheaper door kits out there but you get what you pay for. also, madmods try your best not to lift the door from the handles but do it from the side of the door. and if you later attend outdoor shows or if youre just hanging out, keep the doors down on a windy day since the "sway" will loosen the bolts in a period of time. |

Yea, this one you can enter and exit without lifting the doors. I got the convert model, so I know my doors are lighter. I kind of hold the door down from the sides because it will go straight up real quick For now, I pulled the hinge off to get a mounting hole I drilled slotted with a mill. Its too thick to do it with a dremel. I need the adjustment to seal the doors. Im also going to get a welder to fill in some holes. It looks like its going to work! |

What exactly you guys mean, lifting the door?? .. Like , you open it, an it pops up... does it go up farther.. I was thinking about doing this, but it just seemed like it would be hard or a pin to get in an out of.. Thanks

with proper vertical doors you can get in and out without swinging the door upward. it should first swing out (with enough room for you to get in and out) and than if you want it swings up. if yor inside the car the easiest way for you to "lift" the door to push it up from the bottom of the door. |

Just an update, latches are back from the welders who filled in some half-moon crevices on the mounting plates. Im determined to keep the latches bolt on both sides(body and door). I could very easily be done with the project, if I weld the latches to the door side. But I rather do the extra work and make them removable. The latches bolt right up to the body side. I would say now that it is very easily possible to Lambo door the 6th gen celica, and actually any car out there.
Next stop is the machinist at work. I got to slot the mounting holes so I can have some adjustment. The plate is too thick to do it with a dremel. The problem is its hard to get the latches in a mill, since you can not take them apart. Main hinge is welded closed. The slot will allow the door to move in/out closer to the fender. the latches have 2 adjustments built in. One is how far the door will open before it goes up, and the other is moving the door up or down so it catches on the striker when you close it. So hopefully next weekend I can put both latches on so I can mark the holes, and off the machinist. I was able to get away with not extending the wiring harness. I cut the middle off the rubber wiring boot and added plastic loom. |

My friend and i are trying to make some and we have connections at a machinest shop and welding shop. all i need to know is how thick is the metal on the hinge and i was assuming it is steel. anything else you could help on would be great too.
