Hello,
I just finished up the code required for the site's newest feature, which is the ability to add your personal information about parts that are in the parts database. smile.gif

What happens is that if you view any part in the parts database when you're logged in, you'll now see a big image on the right that you can click on to tell us about the part. When you click this image or the "Add Your Part Information" link at the bottom of the page, you will be taken to a new form where you then input where you got the part, how much you paid for the part, how much you paid for installation of the part if applicable, and any comments you have regarding the part. smile.gif

Once that information is completed, you can submit the form, and although no data will be displayed on the site right now, once we have some entries in the database, we'll display the entered data on the part detail pages, which I'm sure will help many users that are looking for parts or more information on parts. Also, users will be able to see who has this part, so that they can visit their profile and see more photos of it, more information about it, etc.

So if you have parts from the parts database on your car, please take a few minutes to select some parts and enter your information about them into the database. smile.gif

Thanks,
Christian Coomer

Is anyone going to use this?

This feature has been online for over a week, yet only four people out of 2700+ have added their part information. frown.gif

Coom:

I am one of four. However, why not allow people to see what they have written as they add the parts? I think just having that immediate response and the ability to see the fruits of the posts will make the feature take off.

Jay.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I was hoping that users would add a lot of part information, and then the data could be displayed once a lot of data was inputted. I didn't want to display it initially because most parts wouldn't have any information from users regarding them.

Hey Coom. I just found out about the part info you have here. I will enter data once installed. I can enter now... but can you go back and edit once done?

EDIT: Though it doesn't belong... you might wanna put this in the General Discussion forum. I only read "website discussion" when the new topic on the main forum page interests me. Wasn't even aware of this til now.

I just saw this too. I was going through the list checking things out and it looks good Coomer. I have one suggestion. Can you change it so that when you click on the manufactuer's name to bring up their website, that it opens in a new window instead of the current window. I'd like to keep my place on 6gc if I pop over to check out the manufactuer's site.

I actually figured it would kind of be better to give user's the choice of whether or not to open the link in the current window or in a new one. To open a link in a new window, simply right click and choose open link in new window, or hold shift when you click the link. wink.gif

I've just completed the code that allows for members' inputted part information to be displayed on part detail pages. Full news is available on the home page of the site, and if you'd like to see a couple examples of some parts with information inputted, you can visit the links below.

http://www.6gc.net/parts/1
http://www.6gc.net/parts/7
http://www.6gc.net/parts/114

So now I'm asking all of you to please add your part information if you've got any parts from the parts database on your car. It will make the parts database immensely more useful, and will be very helpful to other members. smile.gif

And then hopefully someday the favor will be returned when you're trying to find the next part for your car and you can compared costs and places to buy the part, as well as read opinions on the part, all on one page. smile.gif
