Heres some more lambo door pictures. Driver side door latch is at the welders, and this side has to come off to go to the machinist so he can slot the bracket and give me more adjustabilty. The latches have some adjustability built into them. Im hoping to have this project done by next week, depending on how long the machinist is going to take.

that looks awesome. once you get it done you should see how much the machine shop would charge to make some copies of the hinges and hook us up!

I am able to get out without having the door go up, and it works both ways. You do not have to let the door go up if you dont want. Im not a small guy Im 200+ and the door opens enough for me to get out comfortably The problem is having a handle to pull the door down. I got to make a cool looking one. That strut that lifts the door is strong, and its hard for my girlfriend to pull the door down to close it.
About bringing the latches into a machine shop, I had that ideal 2 years ago to make a cheaper copy then the $1200-1500 decah kit. I thought I could introduce my own kits and take the market, because I will tell you, Mr Decah is now a MULTI-Millonaire. His kits are just catching on in europe and the rage in Japan right now. I have seen plenty of kits around here, so theres no more oooh factor for me, but he has sold over ten thousand at 1500 a piece. hes got more orders then he can handle. I just did not have the time or facilitys/cash flow to get that project going. I cant weld either, and thats a skill badly needed. As far as a kit for you guys celica, i would recommend trying a decah 2000+ celica kit. I would not try the universal weld on kit, because it is very easy to get your door not to seal if you do not no what you are doing. Stay away from street dreams 600 dollar kit, it won't work on your car. Try ebay for a used decah kit. I got mine for 700 (a steal). I put it on a z24(that was a major project!) and took them with me when I sold the car. As far as my kit, its going back to the welder/machinist. Instead of making the plate fit on my car(it dont), Im just going to cut it off, fab some new plates, put the latches on the car, tack weld the new plates to them, pull the latches off, full penetrate weld the plate to the latches. and then slot all the mounting holes. I know it sounds like alot, but once I get it down its going to be easier for all of us to lambo our doors. Im determihed to keep it a bolt on latch. I cant seem to get my welder motivated/serious for my this project. Maybe I will slip him a 100 dollar bill tommorow because money seems to talk. I got no problem sharing tech info with you guys, thats what this website is all about. |
