What kind of filter is that, how much space was there in the fender & what diameter piping did you use? Interesting setup.. Looks like the stock airbox hole on the ST's is further towards the front of the car than on a GT?

Good q. It's not going to be as much as say a ram-style CAI (outside air straight onto the filter), but it will definately be cold air, and probably well protected from water too I would think. |

I just mean't a CAI where the filter, or if the filter is in an airbox the intake pipe, has direct contact with outside air. So some ppl will put it below the battery where you get air from coming thru the radiator and from the undertray, or where you have an intake pipe in your front fender so the air hitting the filter is travelling at speed.
Don't think it's actually called a ram CAI or anything. |

Yeah I have had a look when my header/radiator was off, and having your filter below the batt will definately be cooler than a short ram intake, especially when you are moving, but as I said urs will be cooler. I dunno about the airflow in there you would know more than me about it.. I thought inside the side fender where you have it is pretty much sealed up with the plastic guards?

im kinda suprised that more people seem intrested in that way now.. I did mine the same way like atleast a year ago .. Just take pipes right down the old route.. .. this has been posted tons of times.. but no body like it when i first did it.. but hwat ever .. but the only problem is, if its not monted down real good.. it ratlles an makes tons of nosie when you hit a bump .. that part sucks..

yea man i know i got the idea from u man LOL but i took that into consideration thast y the hole is just large enough so that the pipe fits snuggly in it plus i stripped the foam off of the air box and just tucked it under the pipe now its like very firm and i try to move it but it doenst |

I added my CAI two weeks back... didn't think of taking the digital camera until after we were all done. I'm using a AEM cone filter right now, but got a TrueFlow filter to put in its place. When I swap it out, I'll take pics of mine too.
I went the piping route in the How-to-guide and I don't have any rattle. You can definitely, hear and the difference when the car starts up. We were also surprised at the amount of baffles there were in the stock air intake. Taking all the stock parts out leaves you weith a bunch more room for future upgrades under the hood. The difference in throttle response is noticeable too. I would highy recommend the CAI for anyone that's got the time and desire. |
