I wonder if somebody here knows the size of the front speakers. What sort of speakers will fit without mods? I'm planning to buy a set of Kicker components.
Cheers!!!

I am told that 6 1/2 works. But I know some modifications need to be worked out. Let me know if you find out any useful info!!

There's a how to on putting 8" subs in there. Personally, the housing unit seems big enough to me to be able to actually screw the 8" right in w/o mods. I have 6 1/2's up front(as are standard) but I had to buy/make my own mod for those. It's not hard though. As far as wiring, no mods required unless you're putting in that 8" sub. wink.gif

DIameter of the stock speakers is 6. 3/4th. THATS what it is, and dont listen to anyone else, do a search and you'll find a much more useful faq on this. It's incorrect info like this that makes aftermarket hard for our cars.

Now, you CAN replace that 63/4 with any size pretty much, long as you have a bracket. 6-3/4 won't require a bracket.

Look at the how-to i posted... It shows you what you have, and what to do if you are going with 6.5īs. The diameter of the CONE of the speaker may be 6.75, but the fact remains that with the metal plate that surrounds the stock speaker, the hole is around 8". I am pretty sure that even with a 6.75, you will need to make a bracket... shid, did 6.75īs fit into your car with no modification?

You will need a mount bracket I have been told in the past that you don't need one well those people are full of **** I had to make one. I was expecting the install of my components to go easy uuummmm no it didn't happen than.

The diameter of the stock speaker bracket is 8" I measure and that is what it is.

OK 2 things...

1) for the front, in my celica and many others, the stock speaker bracket does NOT hold 6.75 OR 6.5 speakers, even though most speaker magazines say otherwise... Shid, you must have a different model speaker bracket or something.

2) for the rear, 6.75īs work fine. I personally installed all of my speakers. I should have done a how-to, it was fairly painless once you get to the brackets... To get to the brackets, however, you have to remove both back seats and a crapload of panels.

Any other questions you can contact me. The best thing to do is figure out whether or not ur speaker brackets in front are the same as pictured in my how-to and that of the "how to install 8" speakers in front"... If so, u gotta make a bracket...

Shid, please take a picture of the bracket that you have in front... iīm curious.

Another thing, Shid... please be careful when you make statements like this... a bracket/ adapter IS needed for most applications that iīve heard of... Since Iīve only worked on my 94, I cant say that ALL will need an adapter, but to say that 6 3/4 will fit in all celicas is "what makes aftermarket hard for our cars."

Iīm not trying to flame you Shid, I have much respect for you. Make sure you are informed before telling people to "not listen to anyone else."

I'll take a picture next time the door is off. My 6.5s are in the 6.75 stock speaker bracket just fine.

Shid my 94 ST will hold an 8" speaker without modifications. 8" is the stock speaker size for my car. You need an adapter to mount anything smaller than 8". Many European cars come with 20cm stock speakers which is approximately 8". There is a guy registered on the site fromt he UK who installed 8" pioneer speakers mounting to without an adapter. So stop telling people you're right and everyone else is wrong. You'e only been registered since January, some of us have been here a few years.

Hey, Ive owned 2 Sixth gen Celicas in my ripe old age of 20 and heres some ideas I can share....

My first was a 94 ST w/o power locks or windows. The speaker hole appears to be 6 1/2 to 6 3/4". The problem I had with Alpine Type R 6 3/4 components is that the mounting depth is too deep to fit when the window was rolled down. So what I decided to do is cut out the speaker grilles and then drill holes for the speakers to mount to the door panels themselves...not behind them like stock. It really worked great and looked awesome.
Heres a pic from my cardomain page
Heres the whole page

My current one is a 95 GT 5 speed (sooo much more fun biggrin.gif ) This one has power locks and windows, and the speaker size measures out to 8" with the ridicuously thick plate that is around the stock speaker. I found an actual 8" (210mm) midrange and tweeter system made by Focal. Problem is its extremely rare, Its a 210EX in the discontinued Typhon Line. If you can find it however, I highly recommend them because they have incredible bandwith and can provide bass if you do not plan on having subs. These things fit like a glove in the stock speaker bracket. The mounting holes do not line up...but because it was so extremely tight, i decided to just use some silicone sealer to hold the woofer in place. I havent gotten around to posting pics of my new car but will come soon!

The bottom line is that if you do not have power controls...the stock speaker bracket is about 6 3/4". If you do have power controls, it is closer to 8". I do not recommend putting free air subs in the front doors, because the front stage is meant to be reserved for the midrange and shimmering highs of tweeters, not bass. If you cant come up w/ a 8" midrange, then look at the "how to" on making a bracket adapter to go from 8 to 6 3/4. Hope these ideas can help you all out

Pointing out that you've been here longer doesn't do you any good when you don't know what you're talking about, as you've just demonstrated. So what if I've only been here since January? I've obviously spent more time on this stuff than you. The above post is correct. The stock speaker size is 6-3/4s, with a huge bracket/ring that makes it fit in an 8 inch space.

Hopefully my new Pioneer REV coaxials will show up today. If so, I'll take pictures of the inside of my door panels and post them up.

Heh, take it easy on him, he's from Canada. He probably doesn't know non-metric units very well. Or maybe they shipped 8"s to all the Canadian dealerships and us Americans only got 6 1/2s. Speaker size, of course, made no difference with my purchase because I needed to mount them specially anyway. Even though the speakers I bought were Fujitsu, like the ones that came in the car originally. Yarg.

No.. he's just confusing the bracket for part of the speaker; so that 6-3/4ths turns into an 8 inch.. when it's really a 6-3/4ths with a giant bracket around it...

The stock speaker is 6.5, I took a piece of fiberglass tray and made an adapter out of that. The ring may be 8" but the actual speaker size is 6.5

Looks like everything has been clarified already, so why is this thread still alive? Apparently the non-electric doors and windows have a slot that fits 6.5īs fine, and power windows & doors do not. Nobody cares what size the cone is, they want to know what size the speaker mount is. The fact that the tiny peice of crap that they placed in the center of a metal plate turned out to be 6.x inches doesnīt matter.

On a separate note, those focal 8īs look pretty interesting... iīll have to look into those.

Yeah, I confirmed that my non-power doors will not fit 8" speakers, without massive cutting of the metal. My 6.5" Pioneer REV speakers fit perfectly, although I did have to cut the mounting plastic and the metal door panel to get the integrated crossover to fit.

I'm not sure how I like them yet. They're running off a very poor quality Sony Xplod head unit(long story...it was a free replacement when my old pioneer died) right now, and I have no low end in my car, as everything's out while I'm working on my new enclosure, amp rack, and battery relocation. They'll be running off of a Profile CL200 amp for now once I mount the amp, and run new power wires and new RCAs, getting 65 watts a piece, so I think they'll sound pretty good. smile.gif

Oh yeah, I'll be using a new Pioneer for my head unit too...the DEH-760MP. Or I might go with a CDA-9813 from Alpine...not sure yet. wink.gif

to put my 8" midbass speakers in i had to do a little cutting. Didnt take much but you do have to modify the existing speaker mount alittle. I have the 8spkr setup in my car

I know the Alpine unit is better, but I really don't need a lot of the features, such as time stage adjustment and stuff...I'm not going to have a competition system or anything...just a nice, light, attractive setup that'll get loud and have some great SQ. smile.gif

And the Pioneer has the steering wheel remote, and the better looking display in my opinion. smile.gif

Oh yeah, it's quite a bit cheaper too. Brand new it's cheaper than a good used CDA-9813. wink.gif

What he said...

I have a pioneer deh-p740mp, Itīs great. u are looking at a newer model, probably better. Pio is great for the money, especially on ebay biggrin.gif, but i would not recommend their subs... The rev series is outstanding for the money, and the deck is pretty damn good too. I agree, the alpine is better quality... but I think too many people hate on pioneer because of how mainstream it is.
