What is the easiest gen to install?? I am looking to purchase a 3sgte and have my uncle swap it within a week,He says he can do it and is a certified Toyota Mechanic...So,I am gonna let him tackle it. He often says to me..Why didn't you just buy a Supra..until I mentioned I could do a swap and he's like..find a motor! I will do it!

So,yeah..here I am...

Any suggestions?!?!

i would say the 2nd gen (90-93) just because of availability of parts..the first gen is getting old..and the 3rd gen is tougher to get parts for because they were never in the USA wink.gif

yeh 2nd gen would be best but make sure you get one with a lsd u dont want to spend all your time and money on the motor and not being able to tranfer it to the ground.

Do you know what a limited slip differential is, and what it does? That's what he's talking about. wink.gif

get a 2nd gen USDM MR2 clip, then you can have the axles and tranny to boot. if you are lucky, find a 94 or 95 with OEM LSD

i know why everyone says 2nd gen is the way to go....but id like to know what would make the 3rd gen a harder swap? i mean, 99% of the wiring would just plug in...same fuse box...same interrior plugs, etc...

the only thing i can see harder, is finind regular plats like distributor cap, timing belt, etc...because that motor was never sold here.

keep saving and doing research ...have at least 4,000 before you start. its better to have more money then to take your car apart and realize u ran out of cash to finish the project.

The 3rd gen's wiring is just as hard. Sure the interior plugs are basically the same but you must remember that the 3rd gen was originally in a RHD vehicle while we drive LHD. The harness has to be extended or shortened in certain areas to make everything fit. Plus Japanese vehicles have less emission standards. I know when my dad and I did a KL-ZE swap into our 96 Mazda 626, some of sensors were different and the wriring for them was different. All of the 3SGTE swaps are difficult but out of the 3 (actually 4 if you consider the 3sgte from the new Curren as it has more power than the 3rd gen although I don't think anyone's tried it as of yet) the 2nd gen is the easiest since the availability of parts is greater.

yeah...but the way i see it is...you can run into so many hard to find problems if one of those extentions ever goes bad. also, toyota uses shielded wires for certan things and its almost impossible to know if u are extending with the right wire.
