Toyota gonna release the 8th gen Celica in 2006, the toppest model in the line is a 250hp with 2AZ-GTE engine GT-4.
The concept car had already been showed in Australia auto show before.

For me, I don't think that is a good hp for 8th generation Celica, because of Japan has already cut off the limited 280hp rule, there are so many car manufacturers gonna release their flag-ship's car in about 320-350hp later, such as EVO IX is about 320hp, WRX Sti should be 330hp, and also Nissian S16 is 280hp. As a result, the lastest Celica should have at least 300hp in my mind!!

Do u guys agree with it??

No. I don't even believe it. Scan it. Already been shown at the Australia auto show, gee, never seen it. Never heard anything about an S16, or an EVO IX. It's all speculation and rumors to get sales.

Not really, dude
Coz EVO and STi has already launched their future plan in 2006, so I am pretty sure those cars should have at least 320 and 330 hp.
By the way, S16 has already showed the pics in some JPN magazines, I will show u the spec and some pics later.

Seriously, most of those "JPN magazines" are nothing but false leads, lies, rumors and Photoshops...

I'm not trying to piss on your thread but I'm being honest. The eigth gen will never make it to the states, that's the problem. I'm sure there will be one, and it will kickass. And for some reason, we WON'T get it:(

Two things:

A) I've seen [actual] pictures of the Evo IX and spec drawings/rough production version of the Evo X. There are several Evo enthusiasts on the 3000GT/Stealth message boards I post on, so I get to read up a bit on the Evo's as well.

B) There will likely be an 8th generation Celica, obviously, and probably a 9th as well! So what! The Celica has stopped production in the UNITED STATES, that doesn't mean that it's not going to keep on coming in other countries. As for having already been shown at the Australian Auto Show, I highly doubt that, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there was a new generation Celica. Didn't they continue the MKIV past '98 in Japan?

hmm, this could be true, imo... ive already been hearing things about the S16, so who knows?. I promise you there will be an 8th gen celica for japan, and this dosent seem a too far off proposition- consider this- japan dosent fall in love with retro styling, thats pretty much the case with cars in this class, and even if it were only 250 hp, the celi would most certainly be lighter than evo rex rivals, although you really couldent call them that, seeing as toyota has NO plans to return to WRC anytime soon. Speculation, yes, but not too far off the mark, if you ask me... make the front end a little less offensive, smooth out the fender flaring and rocker panneling, reduce the in your face factor by 20%, and it coulld very well be an evolution of the 7th gen...

To have 8th Gen of the Celica its very nice. What i dont understand guys is,why we are not happy with the 250BHP Power??I mean,i prefer driving a car with 250bhp and be reliable and upgradeable than driving an WRX (Used to have one 280BHP Version 4 for 2 months, broke) and spending all your money every few 1000kms repairing that crap...
Toyota btw its coming back to the WRC in 2 years:)...a Toyota Tunner from England told me that....smile.gif...

The Sportivo Coupe concept was reviewed in a NZ magazine a few months ago - the reviewer actually test drove it and got all his information from the car's creators - Toyota Australia.

Here is some of the info from the article:

The Sportivo Coupe Concept Car was test driven at the Melborne Motor Show by Bruce Newton and reviewed in New Zealand Autocar - June 2004 (page 48-54)

"The Sportivo Coupe is a concept car worth over $1 million dollars and was created in Australia.

It is a true concept. Maybe some ideas and elements will eventually appear somewhere but you'll never see a Sportivo Coupe on Auckland's southern motorway (or any other highway).

It is very much a flag waving exercise for Toyota Australia as it seeks to introduce itself to a new, youger generation - so much so that many of the ideas which shaped the car and its functions originated in a series of information-gathering exercises involving around 100 14-18 year old teenagers. The teens were first sampled to gain their initial thoughts on the positives and negatives of their lifestyles, and then were recalled about three weeks later to give their thoughts on the 30-40 exterior and interior designs developed by Toyota Australia based on their input.

The Sportivo came together in just 30 weeks and was approved in July after Toyota Australia wanted another project following their first successful concept car the X-Runner in 2003

The mechanical basis of Sportivo is from the Japanese Camry (Hokkaido-spec) and features the same constant four wheel drive system as the RAV4. The 4 speed automatic gearbox has been swapped out for a 5 speed manual (this necessitated a change of the rear differential to match it).

Toyota Australia supplier APS was commissioned to seriously pep up the familiar 2AZ-FE 2.4 litre inline four-cylinder engine. This they did courtesy of a Garrett GT25 turbocharger, intercooler and custom exhaust system among other improvements. The Sportivo pumps out 180KW at 560rpm and 305Nm at 4500rpm - that's without any attention paid to the engine internals and only rudimentary ECU re-mapping.

The Sportivo Coupe Concept made the Melborne, Adelaide and Perth motor shows and is now off to Japan for a first-hand inspection at Toyota headquarters, then it goes to the Middle East for a tour of Toyota Australia's most important export market".

As for future Evo's (from Sept 2004 NZ Performance Car Magazine): As the natural successor to the Evolution XIII MR, the Evo IX is estimated to make its JDM debut in 2005. However Mitsubishi Head Office high ranking officials seem hell-bent on hyping the Evo X, even though it doesn't look set to break cover until 2007.

The Evolution X, a concept picture of which was recently flashed on a big screen at an unrelated Mitsubishi press conference, will take on a fresh look and run on a new 4wd chassis arrangement. Whether or not the X will use the 4G63T engine that's been in action right from the very start of the Evolution series seems unclear.

There may well be an 8th generation Celica (read as: damn well better be *waving fist in the air*), even if its release will be limited to certain territories (I suppose there are always grey imports...?) As for a 250bhp claim for a GT-Four-esque variant that is plenty. A little higher would be nice to show that it's actually progressing beyond the ST-205, but still plenty. Take it too much higher and you're cramping any future Supra's style. Assuming that either a new Celica or Supra will come to pass of course...

Going back to the "Celica/MR2/Toyota are doomed" threads well, I have faith in Toyota. I don't think they'll make a mess of things. Not after all these years of making a name for themselves in the performance car sector. There'll be something to fill the void when the 7GC and MR2 Roadster (MR-S) eventually bow out, it will just be an added bonus (for me at least) if it happens to have a Celica, MR2 or Supra badge on it. But if the worst does come to the worst, nothing can ever take away from the greatness of some of the cars they've given to us over the years...your AW11s, MA70s, ST-185s and 205s, ZZT231s, SW20s, JZA80s and many more besides. They're among my favourite cars and that probably isn't about to change regardless of what Toyota is doing now. As for the future, we're just gonna have to wait and see rather than wildly speculating. We probably won't get it right anyway.

Currently accumulating funds for: a black Celica GT (almost there!)

Okay just to clear things up, that will never be a Celica, it will not go on a tour of Japan or the Middle East.

That was a concept between Toyota of Austraila and Hella lighting Corp.

Also I deal directly with Toyota of Japan, as well as Toyota Motor Corp USA, so my info is very credible.... you can go to ToyotaNation.com and you can see that I have reported everything that Toyota is doing months before even the magazines or Toyota announces it.

I was at the auto show and wrote an article on it back in Febuary of 04.

There is no way that the Sportivo Coupe will be a Celica, like like saying the Volta is the Supra

Yes, I have also heard about it too!!

Thats what the car wash guy at my dealership said!

i am the car wash guy, and i havent heard that!
