sorry if this is a repost but:

would it be beneficial to switch to fully synthetic mobil1 if the only real "problem" with my engine is the valve seals?

Ive read that if you have any oil leaks what so ever that the synthetic will make them worse, so will i go from seeing a tiny puff of smoke at startup to OMG the house is burning down?

Thanks all smile.gif

Synthetic oil has much finer viscosity which makes it flow a lot easier. If you have valve seal problems you will get a little more smoke than conventional oil but not an absolute TON. I would continue using conventional oil becuase your engine is not performing at its best anyways. Get those valve seals fixed, then switch to synthetic. That is as far as I know but I might be wrong so you might want a second opinion.

may want to try valvoline maxlife, quaker state high mileage or pennzoil high mileage etc. "Supposed" to help condition seals. Prior to this I use to add valvoline synpower or max life engine treatment oil additives.

But after 10 years and 110,000+ miles I wont switch to full synthetic, for the same concerns.

if you want a synthetic oil and you have oil burn problems then you can add lucas oil stabalizer synthetic to make it a lil better and/or you can use a "stop smoke" addative that is compatable with synthetic oil
i have mobile 1 and "stop smoke" and it seams to be doin fine right now
