Well, today i'v got a call from one guy who owns the MR2 and was ready to put the 3S-GTE in it.. BUT.... He just bought the 5 gen Carlos Saints Alltrack, and he is selling his 3S...

Well, after some talking, he tolds me that his MR2 is powered by 4A red top. And he is starting to ask about my turbo kit that i have, and he offers me to trade my kit (not in whole, cuz i spent so much money and time on it) to his 3S engine and other stuff...

Basicly the engine is from JDM ST165. Actually its one engine in full, rebuild, with port&polish, and other stuff + he gives me another head of 3S-GTE with intake and exhaust manifold. 2 wiring hardness, 1 ECU and etc. the stuff that i would be missing is axels and gearbox from 3SGE (its not a big problem).

But the engine is missing the turbo CT26 cuz the housing of turbine is cracked. So i would need a new turbo.

So i started to think about this deal... is it worth to trade my turbo kit to this or not? Cuz as far as i know the ST165 had 185 hp only? so the potensial of this engine is not that big i think... actually my goal would be to get about 220 whp, and i would be satified...

Well, guys hit me up, i need some options...

Thanks,
Romas

Hey Romas....is it hard for you to get a 3SGE or a 3SGTE at your country??
I mean here is Cyprus its easy to find engines for Swap, for almost all kind of cars.......
I think you should make your one turbo setup as you were thinking. smile.gif

165 motor really isnt worth it, you will find the dated technology doesnt have the same capability as the later versions.

yup, its a bit hard... 3SGTE is imposible to find... about 3SGE it is a bit easyer... but still they are not so popular...

i thought about getting 6 gen GT4 front clip from japan, but i have to first sell my kit to get some money...

well, im waiting for pictures of that engine, after that it will be easyer to deside...

the 3sgte is impossible to find here too....thats why we import them!

doing a custom turbo can have mixed results and you will always worry about your car. ive seen many setups that ran great for a while and then the motor died from the added boost.

the st165 would be a better idea, since you are getting a factory tuned turbo engine, but doing a swap is a lot of work, and you may not be satisfied with how much power it gives you.

my opinion: if you are going to do it, do it right. get a 2nd or 3rd gen 3sgte.

There are many posts on celica.net that suggest not getting an ST165 for a variety of reasons. I would go there and do a search.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I'd say go for it. Reason being -

Option 1: you turbo your ST. ST blows up. No engine, no turbo.

Option 2: you swap 165 into ST. 165 doesn't work or blows up. Put ST engine back in and you still have a engine to drive the car with. Kindof like John did with his 4A project.

That engine doesn't look too bad either, plus it'll give you great insight if you ever plan on doing another swap besides the Celica.

Good luck Romas.

ct26 is a ****ty turbo, that thing looks in great condition doggy, its your call man, even though the 165 has less potential than the other gens, its still got more than a 7afe, and if its really that rare to find, and its in that condition, you may want to snatch that wink.gif

and john didnt have a spare motor to put back in the celica lol he had to go pick a new one up cuz he sold his old one

Hey doggy,
the 165 is too old im my opinion. I think you will be getting in new troubles. Just save up for an ST205 Clip. At least if it was the ST185 i would consider it but the ST165 is too old.
Since you are so far ahead withyour turbo project, i would invest in some forged internals to increase the reliability of the engine as is rather than getting in new kind of trouble.
