I heard that they dont prep well or at all. Their paint peels and chips within a few months. That's all that comes to mind.

I know a dude that had his work done at macco and it came out well actually it hot. BUT he did the prep work and supplied the paint. They can spray pretty good they dont prep well so if you just want to get it sprayed i would say go for it. Good luck

yeah, you get what you pay for-- that sums it up
maaco is the cheapest so you will get the cheapest job

I've seen the peeling on a couple of cars, they just paint right over rust and old paint

dj, i remember seeing your spoiler. My suggetion is see if you can remove it, sand it down yourself, and then give JUST the spoiler to Macco. If you do your own sanding and there is nothing for them to tape up, i think Macco will do fine.

or do some type of technique

I have a friend with a Nissan 240 and it had a paint job from macco.. it was pretty crappy.. it had streaks and they even painted over the decals on the trunk. I would not suggest getting it from there if you want a decent paint job. It would be worth paying a little more now to get it to last and look good! smile.gif

i believe the owner of the car before me had a macco paint job done, lots of overspray on stuff. and the color doesnt have any kind of shine to it, very dull. But very soon i'll have my new color smile.gif Very excited.

If you search macco paint jobs in newgroups, you will find so many upset customers who had crappy paint jobs, paint was flaking after a few months, overspray, dull finish within months. Most of this is due to their low price, you get minimal prepration, and poor quality work. What do you expect if you are paying $500 to have a car repainted. Good luck with theit 5 year guarantee, its unlikely they will re-do the work, and even if they do, it probably won't match what was there. In the end you get what you pay for. Macco is not even say like the walmart of car painting, they are more like a street vendor in my opinion.

so i went to a local body shop
and the estimate is $300
seems kinda high doesn't?
they said that its de-laminating
so they would redo the whole spoiler.

So. You have a Maaco paint job right now? And they blended the colors of the kit to match the car? Or you had the whole car done? When did you get it done, where at, and how is it holding up? What's the warranty?

they did my whole car and door jambs for 800 bucks. they sanded my car did all the prep work. they even took out s few dents for cheap. they did a good job. people who saw my car at the meet all liked the paint. ok i have my prrof of sale in hand. $200 for prep plus service (highest) $500 for supreme paint job (secound highest) there wasa sale going on also. door Jambs $100 extra $800 total.
the warrenty is on cracking peeling fading least thats what it says. but so far so good. just take care of ur paint. after 2 months of hanving the new paint i washed it down with dawn to take all residue off then polished it with megiars number 2. then waxed it with megiars NXT wax. the paint cant really be harmed like this.

Well best of luck with your paint job, if it holds up in a year without flaking around the windows, and doen't peel and crack maybe you're lucky. But it would be a rare find, good luck with the warranty... somehow if so many people have comaplined about their ****ty macco paint jobs, then you think hey would have taken them up on the warranty? Take a search in the newgroups via google searching for macco, and you will find a ton of pissed customers.

i only did it because it will take everything off the car. oils and old wax. i wanted to polish the paint so i had to get down to it without any oils or left over waxs on the paint still. dont wash ur car with it unless u intend to wax it right after since it will leave your paint unprotected.

every paint job in general. swirls are just scratches and every paint job gets scratches unless you polish every 2nd day

Maaco has a bad rep because they do poor prep work, about 80% of a good paint job is in the prep work and takes the most time, plus even when they paint they do a horrible job overspray painting windows, mirrors etc, i've heard horror stories.

Also you have to remember good quality paint for you whole car, will probably cost $800, Maaco uses the crappiest paint so you get a cheap price.

I would only take a car to maaco that had chipping or rust on it that you wanted to sell real quick.
