hey, thanks to OREO i believe we came aware to the ALL carbonfiber hatch for the supra. well i talked to the guy personally via IM and asked about a celica one.
he said "i am open to anything new" and is willing to work with us on this.
He is willing to create a 100% carbonfiber rear hatch for the 94-99 toyota celica HATCHBACK....no coupes or verts....sorry you want that you need to contact them lol.....but if you are interested please reply as i told him i'd try and get a list going. he is currently backed up right now but i told him i was just doin some information recon. the ruff weight is 9lbs(the supra was) you can hold it with your pinky finger.... they have NO ruff cuts its all smooth and VERY WELL constructed please check out the link for the supra as a referance to the product....
they sell the supra for 880$ so expect a relativitly good sticker price on this...maybe we can get him to do better if i get a good sized group in on this

I do have a question. What about the glass? How hard would it be to transfer the glass from our hatch to the new cf one? Or does it come with the glass? From the pics, it looks as if it doesn't.

it shouldnt be very hard, but if you are going with a cf hatch then you would probably get something lighter than your stock glass. like say plexiglass? is that lighter? lol umm... what else.... clear plastic like from plastic bags.... lol just kidding...

There's a guy on the MR2 boards that lays CF and he would also take on this job. If someone talks to him you might get a better price.

lexan is a great material...i use it for a bunch of projects i do for random stuff...extremely strong and nearly unbreakable...i dunno how the defroster would work on it though...that might be tricky...also puting tints on it might be interesting...depending on how much this ends up being i might be in for it later on down the road when im not a broke a$$ college student rolleyes.gif frown.gif rolleyes.gif

there's something wrong with my hatch it seems to where ive always had to slam it kind of hard to close all the way.

i just dont want to crush it when i give a little elbow grease

im not 100% keep that in mind

yes the glass is heavy, but still the switch to the carbonfiber will be benificial to the overal performance of the car....any weight cut on these cars helps a good amount i mean even a difference of 100 lbs is noticalble in my car....thats 1 person.....so any weight reduction helps

this will be a good price and 800 is usually what the ruff price range is so dont expect it to drop to much. but depending on WHEN you need the money depends if im in or not.

I'm in depending on price and when the money will be needed. A couple questions that haven't been addressed...

1. Will the defroster still be functional?
2. Will holes be drilled for the spoiler?

Or possibly, could you get him to make a factory style CF spoiler? I'm not going without my spoiler, and I'm not sure how a black spoiler would look on a CF hatch.

if the spoiler is an option you will have to use your stock spoiler and just attach it in the predrilled holes........yes teh defroster will still work cause you just switch the glass over

ok i just talked to him for a very little bit b4 i went out to dinner. he said he would reinforce the area were the spoiler would go but he would leave it shaved so that you would have to make your own spoiler holes but that is just as simple as whipping out your drill and drilling through........so let me know who would be info for doing it this way

that's how it should be done. for example, people have different wings and some might not want a wing.

is this GB a definite? if so when will production begin?

thanks

CIANCI Ryan: Just checked it out. I would say I can start on your guys hatch in 35 days. And when I start it will take apx 2.5-3mo
CIANCI Ryan: when 35 days comes up, I will take 100.00 deposits twards the hatch, when the mold is completed and we get the first unit ready I will collect the rest
CIANCI Ryan: retail will be 690 on the hatch
CIANCI Ryan: if we can get 15 people, I will do 590 on the hatch + 155 S/H to anywhere in the u.s

that is the deal with this
i just need people who are serious and are willing to get in so make a list

ok, well then if the people that are in for the 15+ price, put (15+) after your name on the list so we know. Dont wait for it to get to 15 with people who will pay more, because then it may not happen....if you see what i mean.

im in, please double check with the company and see how their carbon fiber quality is.

ask questions such as:

what if their is a defect, such as "mushed" or "swirly" weaves where their be a refund or exhange?

how many layers of clear coat will there be and is it UV protected

will the carbon fiber fade?

might want to get a price for 5 or 10 people in the group buy. I hate to say it but I doubt 15 people is attainable and even if you do get that number theres always those that back out. good luck man, if this goes through its gonna be one hell of a sweet addition to your cars.

hey i will prolly be in, money isn't the issue, i have the money for it, i can post pone a payment on my car (family loans are awsome).
however this depends on a few things:
1. will it rattle, (i won't have any subs for a while, but def. will in the
future and when i do get some i will be getting alot, however they will
prolly only get cranked up at shows when the hatch is open)
2. will it be able to support an aftermarket spoiler (one that has two
mounts closer tothe center, not on the outside, the spoiler i'm getting
will be cf, but i want to know if it can hold up an aluminum spoiler)
3. what about the glass, i want to get lexan if i get this but where can i
get it, and how would tint go on, approx how much would it cost for a
lexan back glass and the small ones on the side

i'm not worried about the wiper or defroster, i would rather not have those anyways
and one more thing how hard would it be to get screens molded to it (at the bottom of the hatch) or at least places for screens to go in the future

1) it shouldn't rattle at least not more than stock...same mounting points as stock just as tight(but in anycase you should use dynomat for competition amount of bass)

2) yes it will support an aftermarket spoiler, it will be reinforced all across because it will be able to be drilled for a stock/aftermarket spoiler

shouldn't be too hard to mold in tv screens just as hard as a stock hatch

plus a custom rear hatch at a show will gain HUGE bonus points with a judge

thts what i was thinking, but it will be a while before i get the subs or tvs, and when i do, its not like i'll be competing in audio competitions, mainly just for show so it shouldn't ever get too loud,

ok so what about the glass, which is actually the most important.

what about the glass??? just take out the stock glass and put it in the new hatch....or you can do lexan which i know nothing about and your on your own but you'd have to get a shop to do it for you

they will be 12-14 lbs since they will not be infused....not infusing is take the price down for us otherwise we would pay 880$ almost but it will still be very well done it just takes a lil more resin

this is a discussion i had tonight with him:

CIANCI Ryan: your guys hatch would weigh around 12-14lbs
CIANCI Ryan: im not going to infuse them
CIANCI Ryan: otherwise they would be 880.00 parts
SrPlaYR158: what is infusing ?
CIANCI Ryan: you inject resin into the mold
CIANCI Ryan: in a controlled enclosed system
SrPlaYR158: mmk, what does that do the hood exactly?
SrPlaYR158: *hatch
CIANCI Ryan: it makes it very light
CIANCI Ryan: like the Supra hatch
CIANCI Ryan: uses less resin
SrPlaYR158: ah i see
CIANCI Ryan: yeah
SrPlaYR158: thats kwl
CIANCI Ryan: Yeah
CIANCI Ryan: and on the weave
CIANCI Ryan: yes, there will be some distortions
CIANCI Ryan: I use real CF, not plastic sheets with CF imprints, and fiberglass backed
CIANCI Ryan: there will always be some flaws
SrPlaYR158: mmk
SrPlaYR158: and what kinda distortions can i expect
CIANCI Ryan: the weave being a little zig zag
CIANCI Ryan: we try to keep it as straight as possible
CIANCI Ryan: but sometimes there are little snags
SrPlaYR158: yea, will it be very noticable?
CIANCI Ryan: you will see it
SrPlaYR158: do they happen in like less than an inch increments or larger liek 4 or 5"?
CIANCI Ryan: Just depsnds
CIANCI Ryan: depends
SrPlaYR158: ok
CIANCI Ryan: Im just being upfront with ya
CIANCI Ryan: Dont want to mislead you
SrPlaYR158: yea thats good
SrPlaYR158: i appreciate that
CIANCI Ryan: anyone who says they can make it 100% perfect is lying

you can pretty much count me in, the only thing i am worried about is how much lexan cost, but if its real expensive, i'll just use the stock glass

anybody know approx how much lexan would cost, iv'e been researching it and can't find out how much,
i did see a site that was saying lexan may not bee good because it doesn't shatter like glass which makes it very unsafe for a windshield, but since this is for the back it won't matter, they also said it may rattle, and could turn a yellowish color from the sun, i don't like that so the favtory glass is looking better and better

umm about the lexan go to home depot and buy a big sheet and just mold it to the glass shell that you want. you will need to heat the lexan and bend it. also i need to save cash. i got boat load of bills so you might need to take me out for this one, sorry guys. unless we can work the price down, or wait about 2 months. i really want it but i mean my other bills come first.

and btw, about how long till we need to start sending money, just wandering, cuz the longer he better, i have it but if it ends up being a nother month i can get it without my parents questioning where my money went

after reading this all over again, i do think we need to work on the price...
it needs to be higher

i think we should aim for $850ish shipped, WITH Infusing...
Im guessing the comments about snags and zig-zags(which has me cringing) it because he wont by used a controlled system and such...
if it's another $100 or w/e i'd be willing to pay the dif.

also, i had asked him a cpl quick questions, and he made it seem like if there's less than 15 he isn't even doing it. :\

plz double check that
