i shoot small flames only when i just start up and its cold. it runs so rich that it will backfire once or twice until its warm then its fine. yeah it only happens when letting off that gas fast or inbetween shifts.

Backfire: An explosion of prematurely ignited fuel or of unburned exhaust gases in an internal-combustion engine.

My friend's turbo 2.5RS shot flames out sometimes when he'd shift at high RPMs, and always shot out clouds of blake smoke between shifts. Now the car is sitting in a garage with bent rods though.

Mine has. My club went to carlisle right after I got my swap done a couple years ago. I was scared the car wasn't gonna make it there, we barely tested it. Halfway there, we went through some tunnels in the mountains. I said Ah what the hell,,,and down shifted into third and punched it. It was dusk, and I guess I shot out a huge flame. Everyone behind me shat. They were yellin at me on the radio.
Most of the time after that was when the car wasn't running right.

yeah with an untuned engine. but look at the big drag cars they run race fuel and so much of i that the exhaust is just flame. when the cars have straight pipes or something its crazy.

happens with an open atmosphere bov on a maf/afm car where it runs rich during a shift, the rich exhaust hits the hot piping and ignites.

today coming home i turned into my neighborhood and was having some fun with a set of turns when i hear a huge "BAM!!!" come from the back of my car... first reaction was "OHHH ****" and checked out the back and saw a huge cloud of white smoke, lift off the gas, put it in neutral, check the tach, shes still running, check the oil gauge, yupp still feeding oil, temps good, vac is the same, no CEL... get back on it, she seems fine, finally i go "oh damn lol that musta been a pretty huge backfire"

thats only like the 1st or 2nd time my car has backfired so it scared the hell outa me lol

Yah...but it kinda worried me cuz I had a gas leak at the same time...my car doesn't have an exhaust from the dp...so it has a steady flame at idle...although I'm thinking my car's timing is off. My idle was a bit high untill I hooked up the last vaccuum line and that helped a little...untill it gets warm then the car idles like 1k...so I'm assuming this is a timing problem right?

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I find it funny that you think its funny that we are talking about shooting flames... I think you watch too much Fast and Furious and think its just a stereotypical ricer look... when in fact its very common for modded turbo cars to shoot flames... do some research before you think you're better then others... it just makes you sound stupid

i'll defend him here...
he's prob meaning the 5S.
and very few have turbo'd it so i doubt he took them into consideration.

and as for the 3S...well...it's already been covered in here that is most likely can pop a flame here n there

I was thinking about this the other day... would it be wrong to intentionally tune a car to run a little on the rich side so that you shoot a flame every time you shift? I mean, with no cat to fry of course biggrin.gif

when i first read this title i was like, dang only after real bad mexican food.

flame thower kits are not very complicated, and safer then tuning you car to do it on its own. you just have to put a switch to interupt you spark plugs in the head, to onces in the pipe, and the gas will flow throw the motor and blow when it reached the spark plugs in the pipe. but say good buy to your cat if you have one.

heard anti-lag/misfiring system is pretty bad for your muffler. it's has great benifits but if you can't afford a new muffler every 4-5months i wont recommend having it =p.

no no i know that turbos can shoot flames out the tail pipe. but it doesnt happen all the time. and everyone is trying here. so that means that it doesnt happen naturally. bringing me to my point. its funny that everyone is TRYING to shoot flames out there ass lol!!!. and i did do lots of reasearch cause i know lots of turbo cars... i ride behind them and no flames. it can happen but not all the time. so thank you for trying to make me feel stupid. unfourtunatly it didnt work....

anti lag is super bad for your turbo... they only use it in rallies because they replace their turbo's about every race anyways... but yeah... it just rips a turbo up.
