are you actually under the impression that you were in control of that 360 "drift"?

dont you mean spun out? lost control?

dont count on a long way to go if you keep up your habbits.

im all for spirited driving and trying things, but when you are stupid enought to pull that **** in front of a police station, you are stupid enought to try things that will get you killed

well didn't kno there was a cop station, b/c dark out but it was an open parkin lot /w gravel, id say about 300yards x 200yards with no parking blocks or anything. Its not that hard to do...you go about 20 or 25 and then you throw the wheel to the left or right clutch in and pull the e-break spin and keep goin

Thats a power slide, not a drift, and umm hey hope ya don't kill any families any time soon rolleyes.gif

And Im sure 97celica will be just fine as long as he keeps away from idiot drivers.

And if you were in a parking lot, chances are its private propertymeaning the cops could't charge you if they wanted to. Maybe with trespassing, or destruction of property, the property being the gravel lot you dug up.

It's not even a powerslide it's pulling a handbrakey on gravel and spinning your car.

The only way you can "drift" in a FWD is to unbalance the car by quickly turning the wrong direction to the turn to swing the back out. Real race drivers use this move for hairpins and tight chicanes biggrin.gif

Yes i have done this in the winter in a empty parking lot far away from a police station. I would never do something like that in front of a police station but maybe it's just me.

240SX's are considered a sports coupe.. Just like Celica's.. They are just RWD, and have good weight distribution..

But I agree.. Doing stupid stuff like that is bad for you. Especially in a unknown area.. My opinion though..

Drifting is the new cool thing to do... so all of the import ricers are jumping or trying to jump on the bandwagon. FWD cars don't drift. Spinning a FWD car only means you're an idiot... regardless of where its done. Spinning out is relatively easy to do, and a relatively easy way to end your life. You can't feint drift a FWD car, contrary to what Kamix says, so if you wanna learn the art of drift... buy a car that can actually "drift" drift (RWD)... Drifting is like figure skating... Racing is like speed skating... I'd rather race...

I rather drift then race. My car is way to slow compared to my friends. So i do something they don't want to do with their cars...DRIFT. Havn't you seen Initial D? They have EK9 and DC2 drifting. Your probobly saying that its because its anime but i've seen a pro drifter called Ucchi drift in a FWD car in Osaka before. It wasn't beautiful like the RWD cars but he had the back sliding and counter steering and all, Very Impressive.

not to get too far off topic but re: ff cars driftings its really a matter of definition. there was a nice option vid floating around a while back of some k-cars drifting flawlessly. bottom line though is they are still dragging their asses around, albeit with a lot of suspension mods and unorthodox wheel/tire combos

Drifting is basially loss of traction at all 4 wheels. The cult term "Drifting" is maintaining that. When it happens on a FWD car... it's almost always understeer. As far as "drifting" goes... go post about your FWD drifting exploits on a drifting webboard and you'll see what I mean. People are annoyed to death. I hear drift stories from ricers all day long. It goes like this... "Hey, is that your hachi roku?" I reply, "That's my Corolla." Then they ask, "Do you drift?" I answer, "No... I race." They say, "Man, you should drift... drifting is awesome. You should see my Civic/Integra/Neon/Focus/etc... Drift!"... Then I chuckle and leave them in their disillusion. I'll assure you... getting a FWD car to go into a controlled drift is all about the e-brake and the rear will only slide for a second or so before it corrects. As far as initial D goes... just mentioning that makes you one of those guys trying to get in on the fad. FYI... most cars need to have a bit of power before controlled drifting can be done. Being underpowered hurts you there also. Anyway, none of the FWD cars in Initial D ever drifted. I'm not saying a FWD car can't slide its tail or drift as in lose traction at all 4 wheels... I'm just saying... don't play it off like you're Takumi or something... just because it's the new cool thing to do. FWD can't do the "drift" as referred to in a cult term... but they can do the drift (like all other cars) like loss of traction in 4 wheels...

On another note: The drifting fad is only gonna get bigger. My cousin just traded his stock 91 240sx for a nearly mint condition 94 Civic Hatchback with a B16A swap. Basically, he traded a 240 that's worth roughly 2000.00 for a Civic hatch that can be estimated at around 4000-5000 dollars... EVERYONE is trying to get in on the drifting scene now. Since AE86 Corollas are difficult to find and typically expensive... they buy the 240s... heh...

Unbalancing the car to swing the rear end out on a FWD car is a proven technique and has been used by FWD rally drivers for decades, end of story. I didn't say it was drifting (hell no), I just said it's the closest to drifting you are going to get with a FWD.

I don't have any video handy, but Tiff Needell (that british chump) did a very good demonstration of this move on Top Gear.

I don't have any video handy, but Tiff Needell (that british chump) did a very good demonstration of this move on Top Gear.

That's a feint powerslide. Weightshift to reduce traction to one corner of the car then induce understeer around a corner (FF only). The ass-end kicks out and drags for about a second then when the understeer happens, it corrects and straightens out. If you've EVER raced an FF machine... you don't gas is during apex around a corner. That'll cause massive understeer and that's bad. FWD slide techniques are pretty useless on pavement... in exception to some e-brake techniques... We've been over this before... and you've yet to demonstrate anything aside from hearsay. I'm not saying it's not a proven technique... it's just not within the context of this debate. We're talking about drifting... what you describe is a feint drift technique for a RWD car but doesn't apply to a FWD car... Also... doing it on dirt and pavement are two different things... so just quit it already. I've seen/tried just about everything there is to see/try as far as racing and drifting is concerned.

Go get um Kwanza! Sorry I didnt get back to you man. I've been real busy lately and I figure shipping for the driveshaft isnt gonna be worth it. Do you ever see drifting going back to an underground cult?

Don't worry about it. Drifting is going prime time... and probably not gonna go away. It's a good thing, cause I generally like the sport... but it's gonna cause problems with kids thinking they way they think and trying to be bad asses and stuff. MR2s and 240s are being picked up left and right around here, and all by kids. Nothing against young up and comers... but if they don't have the skills and try to perform drifts... they're just gonna end up jacking up their cars. I see MR2s being parted all the time nowadays.

As for your car... dude... an AE86 in Hawaii is a VERY rare site... You can hold out for much much more than 2000.00 if it's a complete conversion.

Yeah I'd just like to dig this post up from the grave and point out that aggressive 'I am better than all of you so I'm always right' posts like the ones kwanz made are what have made me stop visiting the site. Dude I have raced bikes, cars and carts since I was 12 - actually let me complete that list for you.

50 & 100cc carts
125 & 250cc motocross
4 wheel 250cc bikes (banshees)
VL/VK commodores (v8 rwd)
Speed cars, Sprint cars (shared a seat for 1 season)

I don't by any means think this is a big list... but it is a lot bigger than some people here, and I do have real race experience, I'm not some wannabe ricer like you automatically label everyone. Admittedly theres no FWD vehicles on that list... all I've done is take my celi around the local track and watched lots of road and rally races on TV.

I never once said you could drift a FWD. If you look over my earlier posts you will see I was bashing those who said ya could, and said that 'feint-drifting' if that's what you want to call it was the closest to drifting you can get in a FWD - which it is. You need to take your oily little finger out your arse and listen to what others have to say once in a while - you never know it might make you a better person.

So in summary, **** YOU.

oooooooooooooooooooooohhhh i sense some insecurity about his experience... Does anyone else? It is really kinda stupid letting someone on a forum get you all worked up. Why do you have to care that much? Can you not be happy that you know what you know and just try to ignore what others say? And that business about listing **** you have experience with and as backup to why you think your right.. A word of advice, Grow up please.

Seriously now... this is gonna bother me because? I really could care less what you think about me personally... and I've always said I can only explain my position. I'm not looking to change your mind because I already understand most people are stubborn and don't want to examine their beliefs or ideas in light of changes. They just want confirmation. All I look to do, is explain the facts as best as I can. Take it for what it is. Whatever...

To close... if you get worked up over deals like this... I only feel sorry for you. I've gone through bigger and more intense battles here and I still hold respect towards most of those people. I can even name a few: Dustyburns, FallenHero, Neverstop, spunky393, and more. Some of these got personal... but I tend to hope they still hold a measure of respect for my words and I for theirs. It's all in the process of learning. There's a fine line with me and I differentiate between personal insults and difference of beliefs/ideas. I've been proven wrong many a times also... so it's not a matter of "I'm better than you all..." or anything like that. For the most part, I speak from my personal hands-on research... my personal hands-on experience... my personal hands-on ideas and speculations. I don't speak the gospel truth... I don't repeat what others claim without looking into things myself. I'll be one to admit openly, I am pretty arrogant and I don't like to let people keep their ego especially when they start going off about things they have little knowledge about. That's not saying you or anyone else knows less than me, or I more than you, but usually when I answer... I've already concluded that they/you really have no real idea what's really up.

Hey... good luck with whatever man. Must have really bothered you... and for that, I apologize. Was not my intention...

dude 125cc dirt bikes RULE!
i have an rm125 that i raced for 3 years
motocross and Hairscramble
its funny cause when i do the Hair its in the woods
and i use the motox style while racing it
funny when i hit a root and jump 20 feet down the trail past a tree
and people give me funny looks

but oh i made a record wednesday night

GMU parking lot 11 pm
volvo s40 traction control
accelerated to 40 mph on the snow
e-brake slide 60+ yards
completely side ways
perfect slide imo for a FWD it was fun
i ended up stopped in a parking spot perfectly(almost) parked
it was funny i actually have a video of it
well a smaller slide if sumone can host it for me
