Well guys I was ready to do a 3SGTE swap in my '94 Celica ST (auto)
but when I received the estimate my head kind of buzzed. Right now I have a midly modded car, bunch of bolt ons and trigger happy with the NOS. All_Show_No_Go bodykit/styling. But the car is still not fast enough. I'm also owner of 95 Honda Civic EX with B16A3 and bolt ons. Well not to bore you with details, lets just get down to the price of the actuall automatic-to-manual and 7afe-to-3sgte SWAP!!! -3sgte swap (anywhere from 200hp to 240hp - depending on year) -MR2 or Celi GT 5-speed manual trans (expensive - automatic conversion) -wiring and hard-to-find parts -labor : equals out to anywhere from $6,300 to $6,900 !!! Well since that equals out to almost 7 thousand dollars I was thinking to putting that cash in my 95 Civic (b16), I will not have the looks with the Civic but I'll have the speed !!! TELL ME WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK .... WHAT SHOULD I DO...... This post has been edited by zigy: Mar 18, 2003 - 12:50 AM |

Maybe try turbo'ing your 7afe, so you can have a relatively light car and another good 50+ hp.

I'm not selling the civic 'cause it's more reliable then celica and a lot faster - it does 14.4 in quarter mile - on b16(a3) and bunch of bolt ons (it's as fast as S2000) "ALL ENGINE" no boost |

I think they were mad because of the "civics are more reliable than celicas" statement. Though I think it's a throw-up between the two..zigy you have to relize that people here including me, are going to give the nod to the celica...I mean comon...I would go for the sell the civic plan..I mean who really needs two cars..Though it would be cool to have a racing..and a crusing separate cars...no money for that though, for me...however it is nice to hear of a civic that has more work on the engine then the exterior..good job at least for that...

Toyota's are higher quality.=proven fact
Now that's out of the way... I personally love Civics. Especially the 93-95 SI hatch. Those cars can be in mid twelves for under 5k. |

Toyotas=High quality is true, but same for honda... hondas can take just as much as toyotas and viseversa theyre both EXTREMELY reliable, i may give the edge to the civic though. toyotas trannys are less than smooth and are really the weak spot of the lines... while honda has definatly mastered the MT gearbox, it slides inbetween gears absolutely effortlessly. -------------------- ![]() Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... So do you think that it's worth spending almost 7 thousand $ ,
on the 3sgte / manual conversion on a car that's almost 10 years old ..?? (almost since it's '94) |

well i would go with just the civic..if it was just the engine I would give the job to the celica but since it also involves the tranny..and above stated hondas are better trannys..so do the civic..keep the celica for cruisin'

Well here is how I came up with my price -> around $6,500 (where are you getting 3-4 thousand, I don't know) -3SGTE engine from st205 (it's more expensive then st185) -custom engine mounts (since my car is ST) -MR-2 Manual Transmision (buying separate from engine, $$$) -AUTOMATIC to MANUAL conversion (right there, sounds expensive) -hard-to-find-parts ($$$ and time) -LABOR (yes I'm getting it done by shop!!!, $$$) ..... and unexpected costs...... |

I don't like civics, must be all the ghey shizt for it. Dunno. If i was to have a car other than my celica that was in my price range it would probly be a 96-98 eclipse. I like the body style and you can get them turboed so that's always a plus.

well you don't need custom engine mounts, you can just use the GT mounts and the GT axles. other than that, that sounds about right for a swap and manual conversion. the swap will run about 5K if you have a shop do it, and the manual conversion like 1500. -------------------- 1994 Lexus ES300
