Today I was on the freeway doing 80mph in a 65 along with another car which was in front of me. A cop comes up behind me, goes into the lane on the right of me and speeds up next to me and beckons me with her finger, like she wanted me to follow her. She then passes me and gets behind the other car that was also doing 80 and pulls them over. I realized she beckoned me because she wanted to pull BOTH of us over at the same time... but I still didn't stop tongue.gif I just got off at the next exit and never saw them again.

Did I have to pull over? What would you have done? Is there any way I can get in trouble for this?

Rule of thumb: always do what the officer says!

She probably would've given me a ticket anyways, because she wouldn't just let BOTH of us go. So if I do get a ticket, at least I didn't have to waste the time of being pulled over...

That's ****ing stupid that they give tickets in the mail.

Edit: Again, "couldn't I just say I didn't see her beckon me?" Plus she never even flashed her lights at me at all. She didn't turn them on until she was behind the other car.

lol, your screwed.

My brother-in-law is a cop and told me about this. If a cop pulls besides you and points, you MUST pull over. If you see him and keep going you're on an account of running from the cops. She has your plate number and now is probably pissed. And you can say you didn't see it. But trust me - if you say you weren't speeding and the cop tells the DA you were.... which one does the DA pick. So if the cop says you know that he pointed you and you ran - your screwed. Just hopefully the cop is lazy and wont file the report.

pleading ignorant will get you no where.

BTW: Thats not entrapment, entrapment is like forcing someone to break the law.

Well I didn't run. If I say I didn't see her, there's nothing that disproves that because the exit I got off on is actually where I live and where I was headed at the time. And where in the law does it say that if they beckon you that you have to pull over or follow them? The only thing I've heard of that you have to pull over for is a siren, flashing lights, or if you get into an accident.

It is the law that u have to do that whether you have read/seen it or not. You cant say oh I didnt kno it was illegal to steal this bread, and then get away with it.

you also don't have to pull over if you don't feel safe. being pulled over on the interstate would not be considered safe by me and I would have gotten off at the exit as well... so if anything comes of this that's what I would say.

.yeah that is a rule - but it was daylight wasnt it??? a little bit safer - but u could call 911 and say i have a police man following me i dont feel safe so would u get the car and let him know that im pulling over to a safer area or find out if its really a cop! i mean they can understand that

First off, the worst your going to get is a ticket in the mail, then just go to court. Second off, they cant expect you to just pull over by them pointing at you. I have three friends and my ex-g/fs aunt was a cop, an they said a cop could do that, but they cant really expect people to pull over. And thats why i never make eye contact, or look at the cop cars to long. biggrin.gif

Yes pulling over on a major highway for any reason is a big risk, especially if its busy. But I agree just say you didn't see her do it, like super said, ignorance isn't a good defence since your required as a citizen to know all the rules and regulations, not that everyone does anyway.

I dont think its a big deal, if you get a ticket, fight it, if you were some how evading arrest im sure you'd have heard something by now.

i know that is entrapment, but if he said he didn't know it was a cop, and the cop started flying past him, like they did...and then he could race, until he could see the lights tongue.gif

I'm pretty sure (at least in CA) you can only be charged with evasion if you don't pull over to both lights and sirens. Disobeying a lawful order and the ticket itself are still possibilities though.

We could all put 65 mph governors on our cars and never have to worry about it.

You'd still be speeding and possibly driving reckless, someone flying by you isn't an excuse to break the law, and isnt entrapment if that person is a police officer.

Actually if I hadn't looked at the cop, she probably would've gotten back behind me and put her lights on, in which case I would've HAD to pull over.

I'll be sure to let you guys know if I get a ticket. If I don't post, then that means I didn't get one wink.gif

HAHA, I remember when i took my old dodge daytona to TN, there was a road that was 85mph, an my car waa strugling trying to keep up with other, but they were also going 105 or more.. iv noticed that sence iv been driving slower, iv seen more cops, and like il slow down, an right ahead theres a cop.. its wierd.. but yeah speeds only fun when your going a little faster on windy roads, and have it under control.

TELL THE TRUTH, you saw her do something then pull in frunt of you and pull the other guy over, you did not understand what was going on, and though you where going the speedlimit, etc.

Any judge would rather hear the truth about it than bs, but i really doubt your gana get a ticket.

If you get a ticket in the mail, just go to court and say " I thought she was waving at me as she was driving by".What's the judge gonna say? "Our officers are not that friendly". biggrin.gif

Tell him "besides I just glanced her way I did'nt stare, I am suppose to keep my eyes on the road ahead for safety reasons". That should get you off the hook.

I would not recommend being a smart ass, it will not work.
