The new issue of Car and Driver has a nice little write-up about the Toyota Supercar due as early as 2006. According to the article, Toyota representatives have indicated that they wouldn't produce it until they get some victories in F1 races. Its reported to have a v10 and 500+ hp and retail at between $100-120k. Interesting stuff...

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

well... i will be starting my salesman's spot at the Toyota dealership near me (coming from Ford/Chrysler). As from the GM from the store...

1. The Supra will come/annouce in 2006 to compete with the Z
2. The MR2 will be back as a hybrid
3. The next line of Scions will blow my socks off
4. Toyota has more money than any company in the business. And if wanted, could make a mass-purchase of buying all of GM without a loan. Thats huge.
5. The Volta will be made as of news now

I dont really expect the GM to B.S. me that much, so I expect most if not all of this to be true.

1. I hope this is true. Just in time for me, It will be about that time when i get a real job and a real paycheck...
2. ok i suppose. As long as the numbers are good and the Supra is out as well
3. i dont doubt this. As from the TC things are going that way. Ive hear that the Supra might come out under the Scion name.
4. I doubt that is possible. Although they are the largest car makers in Japan, GM is the largest any company in the world!!
5. Im hoping the Volta will be this "super car" that everyone is talking about and the Supra is the more modeatly priced $30K street car everyone wants it to be

I personally have no faith in Toyota with regard to sports cars so I'm not gonna hold my breath. I personally don't really care about a supercar or a new Supra either... cause I'm not gonna be able to afford one... What I'd like to see... an affordable, light weight, small, agile, FR sports car with an engine that can spin out some power. A retro Celica perhaps, or a reborn AE86? Toyota should take advantage of the popularity of the AE86 and re-make something like it... but then again, I'm not holding my breath.

What Toyota NEEDED to do was to produce more 6th gens in the US with the 3sgte option. The 6th gen Celica as far as I'm concerned was the last TRUE Celica. The 7th Gen doesn't even follow the original body lines that was started by the first gen and followed by every generation after that. Not to mention that the 7th Gen is obviously the most popular of all of the generations before it (I consider them girl cars <not to generalize or anything> ) If they offered the 6th gen with a turbo option in the US I would have jumped on it a long time ago. I hope that Toyota gets in the game of supercars because I really don't like any of the domestics and I would like to see a Toyota designed car waste a European Supercar any day.

Those pictures look like the same old Supra with 7th Gen celica head lights...not bad looking but not a huge difference either.

edit: it looks a little like a Corvette as well.
