I hear left and right that RHD drives cars are illegal in the USA. Now my questions is, are they illegal b/c THEY ARE RHD or b/c of the other little things? Like 1. NO EGR? 2. The DOT stuff (sorry dont remember anything about that)? Or both, which is it? From what i hear there are people here and there that have RHD cars here in the US even HERE in L.A. Ive seen a R32 around here and i think a R33. But I'm not sure if they have been registered. If registering them were such a big deal are then how are they on the streets? How do i get me a RHD car and get it registered? I'll make most of the changes that are needed like the DOT approved stuff if thats all it takes to register it.

Sorry i was bored as you can tell in the middle of the night so this was troubling my head biggrin.gif

Later,

they are illegal cuz they cant be registered in the US...cuz of smog and dot and just all that crap....

if you get the money to pass it you are fine.....RHD isnt illegal its the car
their are a few people that have rhd conversions here and they are fine...due to it being reported to the dvm and your fine

I think RHD is illegal in some states unless it for a handicapped person or something.

The reason is because we drive on the right side of the road, so when you go to pass a car you have to look on the left side of the car in front of you to make sure it's clear, and since you're on the right side of the car in a RHD car, it's very dangerous.

RHD cars are not illegal... its that the type of cars that we want just happen to be RHD. Skylines can be made street legal because there is a company that has gone through the trouble of importing them, making them DOT approved by providing crash test results, emission equipment modification and things. But the fact that the driver sits on the right does not make a difference.

RHD while not illegal in some states is a pain when making left hand turns on a busy intersection in any state.

Damn lucky ass kid. I got a happy meal for my graduation. I wish i was spoiled and could get something like that.

Anyway, so if a RHD gt4 or a s15 was imported here and a USDM (5sfe or KA24) motor was dropped into it plus all the other DOT stuff were done to it JUST to get it registered be enough to get it on the road? Then swap everything back in?

RHD is legal in every state in the US and I can prove it. The only reason it's so hard to get one for yourself is, the government wants to make sure they own the fastest RHD vehicles. biggrin.gif

Dangerous !#%^^&*

i drive a RHD in Moscow 'Russia' and here there LHD but it seems to make no odd's to them, or me !!!!!

the only reason is the smog laws you guy's have over in the states....

and as for left or right ....
well all i can say is 'in the states you may drive on the right side of the road,
but in the UK we drive on the correct side of the road wink.gif

Yeah, they aren't illegal, but its not quite safe for this reason. Also, if you are trying to make a left turn on green with oncoming traffic and there is a car infront of you, it will be hard to see if there are any cars coming. There are LHD GT4s from like germany though.

Yeah i agree with you about the left turns.....
but i'm sure we all do stuff more dangerous than that daily, when on the road...
you just learn to compensate over things like that !!!

man oh man....

Guys, the easyest wayto get GT4 in states, would be importing one from Europe (LHD) and swaping VIN's!!!! If you have a GT or you can even buy a wrecked ST, swap VIN, and no one will ever know... both car wount be stolen, so no one will miss them, and as long as you will have some wrecked ST or GT you can part it out... so whats the problem??? Easy and good way...

And if you want it to be even more safe, clean the engine number, cuz by the engine number it could be recognised what car it is...

any more questions? biggrin.gif
