I had read previously on different posts about the front speakers being 6 3/4"s...NOT. Got me a pair on Kenwood's KFC-1738C. They sound great but they don't fit. I am thinking of finding hard plastic and cutting it to fit the hole where the speakers go and make it a custom round frame. Maybe I can get a couple of frisbees to do the job. haha. If only the plastic on them were hard enough.
Any other ideas? ![]() |

I think the posts were referring maybe to the "active" cone
area of the speaker, not the surrounding frame.I did the same as you a while back, bought "blue cone " KFC's(not kentucky fried chicken) on the info given and man was I pissed off when I realised they weren't gonna fit. Someone suggested cutting the existing speaker off the frame and mounting the replacements to the frame but I haven't had the chance, besides my girl's beatin me up about me spendin more time with the car than her! ![]() |

6 3/4" is not the correct fit for the front speaker in Celica's. Even though crutchfield says it is its not. They are actually 8 inch speakers in teh front door and 6 3/4" in the rear. I also made the same mistake and has an installer create adapter rings out of ABS plastic. Make sure to fill the space with some sound filling material, as the adapters can somtimes vibrate if not securely fastened. Also I had to change the balance of the speakers to the front, since if the receiver is set 50/50 front/rear you will hear the rears due to their proximity in the side. Probably the reason Toyota put 8" speakers in the door.

Just measured a traced outline of the front speaker unit,
the active cone area is 6 3/4" but the whole unit is 8 1/4", note this is for a JDM unit, the US unit might be different... |

I had to create 2 wooden frames around the 6 3/4" speakers and use sylicone between the speaker/wood frame and wood frame/plastic component in door.

I put 8" subs in the doors. Very easy to do.
Good luck finding 8" 2-ways. I searched forever and a day. ![]() |

i bought 6 3/4 infinity's for the back. they were too big to fit in the frame. i just shaved the frame down with a dremel tool and they fit in pretty nice
sound great too. |

Ah, those Pioneers weren't available 2 years ago when I installed the subs. I haven't bothered looking since. But that is a nice option for people who haven't already done something else.
My system will end up with the subs staying in the doors, 6.75" mids in back, and tweeters in the mirrors. Haven't decided on which component set or amp to use for the mids/tweets but I'm leaning towards MBQ. |

I called Pioneer Canada they don't sell the 8" speakers in North America, you have to bring them in from Europe. This would be the perfect fit for Celica's, they won't even bother to special order them, or so the lame Pioneer Rep stated.
