My Fiber glass sub box, Molded to the side Options

Ok it’s been a long time since I started this project but its now just coming to an end with complete success. My holiday free time has proven to be just what I needed.

Anyway it’s a fiberglass duel 10" subwoofer box for my Audiobahn AW102T subs. (powered by my Audiobahn A8002T amp.) It’s molded to fit right up against the driver side just under the strut mount door and trunk light. It’s not molded into the side (there is a noticeable line/gap between the edges so that it’s removable if needed, however its maid so that the spare tire can easily be taken out without moving the box.

(It was pitch black when i took the pics, so they came out terrible)




^Used chrome looms and T joints to hide all the off color wires and electrical tape.^ The pic makes it look like there sitting on the floor but there actualy atleast 1/2 foot up untill after the inside sub where it angels and go right into the corner.

also: I still plan to make a fiberglass replacement for the trunk cover where I will mount the amp and cap to the trunk side covering them also with fiverglass (except for a few holes for the knobs etc.)

What do you guys think, Original? Anything I can add? I'm always open to new ideas!

i woulda put one on each side makes it more even and a little better sounding but looks good for what ya got

I cant have it on the other side, the tire jack door is there, and I have my door popper backup buttons there as well (as you can see in the first pic,) I chose to do them on the side as far as i could because I still want as much use of my trunk as I can get.

Um, looks like u did a nice job, I just dont like how the subs are reversed, I have never reay liked that. Also did u use fleece or cloth when raping it?

whats the best stuff to put between the interior and the fiberglass your laying on. this summer i might be doing a kick ass fiberglass setup

i hear saran wrap and vasoline but thats messsy

I always use masking tape or duct tape. I had to use duct tape in my GT-S because masking tape wouldn't stick to the glossy plastic.

I used between masking and duct. Also i tried spraying wd-40 on top of the tape before i ladi glass, and it seemed to help a lot when removing it out anf not having the tape sticking, but took a lil longer to dry and cure.

fleece or cloth when raping it?

My old Fred Meyer work t-shirt (I loved cutting it up) but it was just the right size and thick, i was just a fancy cotton (not fleece) but I here a fleece is better.

I love the back side of thies subs, they almost look like there suppose to be back out because the cone is so simple, but the back is all nice. It also allowed me way more freedom with the design of the box, I could do it as nerrow as I needed with no problem. Just the matter of volume to actualy worry about.

I used a craft store spray adhesive and saran wrap I though about vasaline but yeah what a mess to clean up, the adhesive was for cloth and did not stick solid to plastic so it came right off when needed to. then its just wipe-up-able to get it off the side of the trunk.

Dosnt that suck big nutts.. The back panle i made, I have taken off and re-done about 4 times already, cause it keeps looking perfect, then i notice somthing else, an it pisses me off.

Yep, It will take me a wile to get it all fixed, not to mention when I installed it I added a scratch, I'll just live with the little things till I wana show it off in more then just pics. but its so hard to make it perfect, I have added layers and layers of bondo, then sanded them all off tons of times but there is aways something I forget or miss till its painted.

would adding tinfoil in be a good idea? and to get the gliass to stay in place whats a good idea, jacking up opposite side of car and keeping th ecar on an anglea. if u feel this is hijacking ill edit my posts and make a new thread lol

I dont care about hijacking, its on the same topic, its all good.

I dont really get what your saying, add tinfoil where, jacking up the car makes even less sence, I took the plastic peace out there is only 3-4 small screws holding in the side panel I just took it out and laid it down flat then whet from there. Tinfoil is not a good choice because when you bend it around corners or even fold it at all you get overlaps and wrinkes you cant get out, seran wrap can be pulled and ajusted to get the most level serface.
