that would probably be best fixed by not parking in obsquire off-road or otherwise grassy regions wink.gif

ok better response, quit parking so close to the curb and keep a higher pressure in your tires. if your getting them knicked and scraped from debris, your SOL tire size isnt going to do anything.

Toyo best? Never heard that one. Everyone is going to be bi-ist (sp) and select their brand. But Pirelli, BFgoodridge, yoko is all real nice. I stay away from michellen, cooper, zeon, all offbrand ****, continental and some others i cant think of

The only reason im nervous about yoko, is cause my uncle purchased the perada spec 2s for his car, and they were off, the tires were messed. They ordered him new ones and 2 tires were screwed up, so he got Toyo, and he loves them he got the TS1s He said it has an awesome ride... SO BACK TO MY ORIGINAL QUESTION....40 or 35 for my wheels?

Pirelli is the overall better tire - theres a reason they're stock on BMWs and Ferraris.
35 is an awfully low pro tire - i have 35's and hate them.

It's a choice you have to make. Speedometer off and possible rubbing issues or a harsher ride and greater chance of rim damage.

OK, you should have 215/35/18 sized tires if you want your speedometer to reflect the actual speed that you're going. With this size tire, you should not rub either, assuming you have the correct offset. However, your ride will be worse and you'll have more chances of rim damage than you would with a 40-series tire.

But with the 40-series tire, you might rub...Natalie has 225/40/18-sized tires and she rubs due to her offset. When I had 225/40/18-sized tires on my 18s on my car, I didn't rub, I'm assuming because my offset was different. Also, your speedometer will be off with a 40-series tire. When it says you're going 60 mph, you'll actually be going 63 mph with a 225/40/18 tire.

With 215/40/18, your diameter will be .9" larger than stock, so you'll be goign 62.2 mph when your speedometer says your going 60 mph. You may rub, but I'm not sure.

And do a search on offset. You'll find what you'll need, as it's been covered many times before.

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types.

Zero Offset
The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive
The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative
The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside. For most cars, this won't work correctly. We have test fitted thousands of different vehicles for proper fitment. Our extensive database allows our sales staff to offer you the perfect fit for your vehicle.

Now in english, i didnt understand that at all?

Just do more searching on here and on Google and other sites. It's been covered a lot, and offset basically affects how far your wheel sticks out.

Well i dont care about that, just as long as the ride is better and if 40s will take care of that, then thats what i will do!

You probably should, because rubbing sucks. But it's your car...

And yes, 40-series tires will make the ride slightly better.

Oh, well then you'll just rub more with a 40-series tire.

Have you been actually reading this post? The pros and cons of the different-sized tires have been stated above. I'd go with 215/35/18.

ok a 225 35 18 works good on 18x8 your speedo wont change
215/35/18 works good on 18x7 to 18x7.5 min change .5-1 mph faster
225/40/18 best protection 1-2 mph change slower

I'd probably do a 225/40 for ease of ride and make it look better. Your speedo wont be too far off, nothing super bad. Also if you have a smaller offset (40 and above) then you'll be fine. I have 225/35/19's on the front of my car with a 35mm offset and I dont rub with a drop!!! So 40's should be just fine. smile.gif

Ok I have 215/35/18s. I dont like them because I want 225/40s. But like Coomer said its nice having an accurate speedo - except I did the mathematical calculations to come to that conclusion. Weird since the 18's are so much larger than the 15's.

I'd go with a 40 series tire - 35 provides little protection.
