Simple q, is the turbine supposed to spin freely in a turbo thats not installed, or are you not supposed to be able to turn it with your fingers???? It's outside of my car btw for anyone that didn catch that.

the turbine should spin freely

although it should not wiggle, that would be called "shaft play" and means the turbo is on its way out.

Ok i just got home from work and I was kinda hopeing that the turbo might have just been a little frozen up because its damn cold here and the package was outside for a while, now! is there anything I can do to fix this or free it up? Can i lube it up with some WD40? Or would that be a stupid mistake.....I'd just like this to work , its already been on a car and it worked on that car up until it was taken off, so it should work now right??? theres not a damn bit of shaft play either.....what are my options???

are u talking hot side or cold side? try to feel the inside of the housing to see if theres marks made by the wheel scraping it.

No you cant use WD40 lol - you'll need a rebuild.

HAHA!!! They spin, they just needed a little force, i just wasnt pushing hard enough thats all, probably helped that its warmed up now that its in my room. Anyways is it supposed to be able to just turn with no problem or is some force needed to spin the blades?

they should turn with no problem. UNLESS you just got it rebuilt, like me. i had horrible shaft play so my mechanic made the compressor shaft seal tight. it now has NO shaft play. it does have a lil turn resistance when it just sits there, and it doesnt spin at idle, but once u give it some gas it moves nicely. biggrin.gif

well this one has been outside of the car for a while, so i guess ill just have to wait and see, its turns but it has some resistance, but hopefully when its on the car and it gets lubed up it will fix itself.
