 poping clunking when turning |

Hello...
new to the forum, love all celicas. I've got a problem, it seems every now and then turning left or right i get a clunking grinding sound in a slow hard turn. It just started happening a week a go. I've heard it might be a cv joint problem but it happends when i turn in both directions. I've check the power steering fluid but i'm not sure how high the fluid is supposed to go. I check it, but their isn't a line level. Just cold on one side and hot on the other. It looks like their is fluid in it, but i'm not sure how high. I'm not very good with cars but would like to learn. Could anyone help me... tia.

its a CV joint...i recommend you just replace the half shaft...which is the whole axle...easier and cheaper

Yeah, just get under your car and look at the rubber boots on the drive axels...those are the cv joint boots.. If they are busted open then its time to replace.

Jack up your wheel where the sound is coming from, make sure it is secure with a jack stand and backup jack, and try to move your rim and tire.
If the wheel jiggles or has any free play...it could be the wheel bearings. --------------------  |

^ no thats not true. Wheel bearing will make a growling sound only as the wheel is spinning when driving down the road.
If your wheel has play when you jack it up and shake it then its your BALL JOINTS... (not wheelbearings). Anyways, This noise your describing is not your ball joints or wheel bearings... Its most likely cv joints like we have stated. -------------------- |

You musta been driving on some noisey, really worn out wheel bearings for awhile, there probably wasnt much left

This is difficult to diagnose without seeing it...
