I've been watching the UFC challenge/reallity TV thing. Man, I love it. I've never liked a show so much. I'd really like to be in the UFC. I've been training with the Toughman Compition in mind for about 2 years. But I think I'm going to start training for UFC now. I'm going to take up yoga and see if I can't find out some Ju Jits Sue or something like it. I've done boxing for 6 years now, wrestalling for 3, and I have a Red belt in Ti-Kwan-Do. I think I should finish up my Ti-Kwan-Do and get the black too. Thoughts and opinions?

I'm 245lbs right now. I could get down to about 220. I'd be pretty damn lean at that. I want serious muscle grouth though. I don't care about bulk at all. I already look like I'm not strong. I'm a human sleeper, it's pretty cool. Any one have ideas on serious muscle grouth? I'll do anything. But I'd like to stay fit and be able to run for long disstances and be extreemly flexable.

I'd honestly have to see your picture to tell you the form of art I'd study. How tall are you at 245?
Everybody is a bit different. I have lots of fast twich muscle (scientifically speaking) so I can move very quickly, but not for extended periods of time. I spar with people with lots of the red muscle, and they are much slower, but have more stamina. Which are you? How is your flexability? Do you prefer standing fighting (I would think = boxing and TKD) I'll be honest, watching the "ultimate fighter" is the biggest let down to me. My instructor is a Tang soo Do third degree and is also fluent in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Our mat sparring gets more intense than the UF. sad ehh? My instructor pushes us to develop our own ideals and movements in ring sparring. I personally prefer a Muay thai approach. You boxing would be handy here. My advice: drop that TKD. I've not met a TKD fighter that I respected. The only one I have fought that I thought was fair kicked me only twice, and both times were below the belt. If you want to learn what you would ned for UFC go into kickboxing (preferably of Muay Thai orientation) and study the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for floor techniques. Loose some weight and be happy. Once again though, different things work for different people. |

I think for TKD to work you have to be bigger. I've fought in the youth tornament a few years back and agression was the name of the game. I think I should have one it. The guy who I was fighting was a better fighter than me, but if I was aloud to go all out I would have beat him. It was a youth thing, so it was only sparring, no hard contact. If I had to pick I would say my wrestalling is my strong point. My buddies and I still wrestal all the time, and I more often than not do really well. I'm looking into yogo classes to increase my flexableness. I'm pretty flexable now, I just think that this classes could only help me. Kickboxing is next on my list. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

if you have background in boxing and wrestling as well as Tae Kwon Do, you have a good basis. I would not go for Ju Jitsu, as it focuses mainly on off balanced throws. For UFC you need more of a street fighting method like Krav Maga. Something that doesnt have a lot of show and formality as most esablished martial arts do.

When I saw the grace royce (Im not sure about the name) but its a family from brazil and this guy weighed 135 but kicked everybodys ass. He specialized in brazilian juijistu. He would take the hits while he moved in to grab you, but once hes got you, its over. he knew or hose submission holds, and to see him going against these 300 pounders was like....hes going to get killed. This guy was bad ass and balls of steel.

Definitely get your black belt in taekwondo but seriously man, I know a guy that's fought in similar rings and he is a complete mixed martial artist man. Thai kick boxing, American boxing, pretty much you name it and he's done it. You have to have a lot of diverse skill for it.

I have a friend on the same track he is doing body building obviously, a crazy diet I dont know how he eats so much. Yoga, Gymnastics, grapling with some help of some marine friends. Ty boxing and a couple other forms a martial arts under his belt. It takes a long time because those guys are so versatile they mix up everything. but you have a good start good luck.

I know I can't compete with a good bit of those guys, but I'm only 20 right now. Between my Psychological, Racing, and Fighting careers, I stay pretty bussy. ![]() =my 'suppliments' Body building is just for show... yes, However, stronger muscles (light weight with lots of reps) will make you Drastically faster, Far more powerful, and you will be able to jump higher... not to mention it will improve your stamina. As long as you work out properly, and don't mis-use the suppliments, you will become twice the athlete within weeks. Granted, Royce Gracie and Co arent in the weight room much, but they fight differently than most. My favorite fighter ( http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfi...p?fighterID=209 ) Wanderlei Silva said something to the effect of "you cant be your best without weight training. So, do it right, do it consistently, and you will get it done in the ring. ![]() |

I wouldn't call it a career unless you're making money off of it... ;] For the most part, my brother is one who's been around the fighting circuits. He's fought a lot of amatuer fights and tournies and such... but it's not a way to make money in the US simply because full contact fighting isn't popular enough. IMO, UFC isn't all that. All it is, is a bunch of tough guys wrestling around and such, and maybe out of the countless names, there are a couple of fighters who really stand above the rest because these guys are "trained". That said... I'd love to see a pure martial artist take on UFC... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

i don't know Mang... Wanderlei is about the most "pure" athlete I have ever seen fight. he is Muay thai, it isn't pretty, it's effective. However, Victor Belfort beat the hell out of him one time in the UFC...
And yea... not a fan of UFC. I like pride fighting. ![]() |

Maybe career is too strong of a word. I'm in college to be a Psychologist, so I'm not making money at that. I have fought for money, but it's not a job. And I have raced for money, but it's not a job either. I'm sure there is a word for what they are, maybe hobbies.

I know real fighting... got plenty of scars and injuries also... ;] As for muay thai, which is literally "Thai Fighting/Boxing"... it's a very straight foreward and rigid form with ONE objective: destroy your opponent with singular powerful blows. A bit to ordinary for me... but as one who observes the forms, the tactics, the flaws, muay thai is easily counter-able. It's just too bloody slow, and a fighter who's good with spacing will destroy a muay thai stylists... QUOTE Maybe career is too strong of a word. I'm not saying i am against what you said, but I have only seen a Muay thia guy lose one time in regualr MMA fighting. UFC and such is a bit different in that regard.
