Lately I've been working on my engine bay. Tonight I finally got it to a point where I'm happy with it, so I figured I'd post some pics.

The beautiful 7A-FE engine bay, complete with fire-hazard wiring, overspray galore, and the mighty short ram intake. tongue.gif

Quick shot of the bay during the engine swap.

This was taken the first sunny day after I got the car back from getting the engine swapped in.

A couple months later, more of the bay was painted.

user posted image
Last weekend, re-working the wiring harness commenced. Doesn't it look like fun?

Here's what was removed from the engine bay. Tons of wires, loom, tape, extra plugs, map sensor, diagnostics box, etc.

Masked off and ready for more paint.

Done! Note the new valve cover and spark plug wire cover, in addition to the timing belt cover. No more wiring harness sitting on the valve cover either, and the OEM fuel injector wiring rail is now in place.

Another shot...it's dark again, but you can kind of see that more is painted. It looks really good in person.

The cold air intake rattled, and the battery power distribution wiring was a mess. The solution is an aluminum plate with a hole cut in it, and rubber insulation around the hole. Pics don't do this justice...it looks sweet in person...at least I think so.

Another shot. Yes, I know, that intake pipe needs new paint.

Just a shot of part of the engine bay and part of the car. The bay looks so much more complete with the timing belt cover.

Gotta love that spark plug cover.

That's it for now! Let me know what you think. smile.gif

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

That looks excellent, clean, simple. Very nice. After I am sure I'm painting the car I'll have to do this painting also.

Totally agreed. That timing belt cover was what I noticed first and totally caught my eye. You can tell that you're still very connected to this car. Are you still selling it?

It's really not that hard...I spent maybe 3 hours total masking/painting...nothing to stress over. Be sure to use aluminum foil for masking stuff off...it makes masking lots of stuff a lot easier. smile.gif

It actually wasn't that bad. I labeled all wires that I moved or cut with masking tape and a sharpie and just took my time. Though I was very worried that I'd screw up one wire or something somewhere and have problems that would be hard to find, but that didn't happen. smile.gif

Well, to be honest, I did all the work so that I could go out and take nice artistic pictures of my engine bay at some point. Though I'm sure the car is more attractive to a buyer with a nice looking engine bay. wink.gif

Toyota rates it at 160 horsepower at 7,400 RPM. That's generally a high estimate on Toyota's part though.

That looks really pretty. Is it hard to black/gray the engine bay? I think I know how much work would be intitled. You should keep it man.

I need tips on cleaning a valve cover. For the life of me I can't get the damned thing clean. I need to prep it for painting. Mind you this is an extra valve cover from my old 5sfe.

Sorry, it was spur of the moment, so I don't have a before shot. It was pretty dirty, though. As much as an engine would be that had 250k on it... You can pick up some engine degreaser at a parts store and that should take care of your valve cover.
