Currently, i have an AIWA head unit which i would never recommend to anyone (it has this really annoying christmas light theme and eats disks) and now I want to step up to the next level with an Alpine. Im thinking cheaper so how bout the ALPINE CDA-9845 CD MP3 WMA INDASH CD PLAYER or the ALPINE CDA-9847 CD MP3 WMA INDASH CD PLAYER . does anyone know if there is much of a difference between the sound quality of the to. Also, my celi is vertible and i know the sound quality is going to be alot worse than my hatch was so is there a better choice, I dunno. Unless someone complains about theres, Im leaning more towards the 9847 cause it has 50W x 4 instead of 45W x 4.

either would be a good choice... all Alpine HU's are awesome, even their lowest line is very respectable for the price...also the "50x4" doesnt mean anything.. the 9845 puts out 18rms x 4, while the 9847 puts out 16rms x 4.. (always look at RMS(continous power handling), not max wattage...either way you wouldnt notice the difference in sound between 18rms and 16rms.. but you would be happy with either.. they are basically the same cd player, just a different price...

Nope, higher is better. It's just the amount of power going to your speakers.

Wow...I was just looking at those two HU's as well...However, I ended up going for the CDA-9853. But here's a problem I have discovered since installing it last night...

I have Infinity components in my doors wired to an Eclipse 4 channel amplifier. I have Infinity speakers in the rear that are wired to the HU. I have 2 12" Infinity Kappas powered by an Xtant amplifier.

Now, when I wired the HU in, my rear speakers and subs sound great....However the door speakers don't play hardly at all. I'm tinkered around with the settings on my HU, but couldn't get anything to work on the front speakers. I made sure the RCA cables were correctly put in, and checked to make sure the amplifier had power as well. Both were fine....but still no sound out of the speakers.

After searching in my manual, I guess I need to turn off the "Power IC" mode? Except I have NO IDEA where that function is! I also have on the deck, a X-over in which I can adjust to either "F/R/SW" or "3-Way"

In theory, wouldn't I want that set to the "F/R/SW" setting? Thats where it is currently set at right now, and I'd go out and swtich it to the "3-Way" but I don't really have all that much time to take out the HU and play with it right now.

Can anybody help me out?

-Yota

both good choices... but between the lower models of Clarion and Alpine, id probably pick Alpine.... but as you said, personally choices.... for the higher end choices it would be a toughy...

I think you have the RMS wattages switched. Anyways, I work in Car audio at Best Buy and we just got all the Alpines in. Check out that 9853...I think it's pretty bomb. Only thing is we haven't figured out hopw to get to the subcontrol on it. Every other deck is so easy but that one isn't. also the scroll bar thing on the bottom isn't really all that cool.

on my Alpine and most others, hold down the F button for 3 seconds. scroll through with the ">>| and <<|" buttons and press Band to turn on and off, then to mess with the Subwoofer Bass setting, press the knob in and scroll through!

I've read the manual.. Its rediculous how vague they are on instructions...I also want to wire up all my speakers to my amplifier and not use the built in one...The manual says I need to turn the "Power IC" function off. Thats all fine and dandy...except how do I do it?! The manual has no steps whatsoever to tell me how I need to do that. It's rather frustrating... mad.gif

yea, I held it for atleast 10 seconds...Nothing appeared.

If I press the volume button (AKA the 'rotary encoder') it will go to (sub-volume,balance, fader, defeat)

If I press Menu, I can get to General settings (clock, play mode, tilt, etc.)

If I press and hold Menu, I can get to the Sub settings, X-Over, and EQ...all of which I am very confused on how they work. The X-Over scrolls through the hi, low an mid frequencies as if it were a demo or something...I really don't even know how to set that either!

Its getting confusing... confused.gif

OK, in the the menu and then like settings or something...play around...you turn the subwoofer on. And then "Subwoofer" option is added to the fade, balance, etc list when you press in the volume button.

Snadman-

I have the subs on. This is my problem...

I have 2 amps...The subwoofers are powered by one...That part is figured out, they work great!

The second amp that powers my door speakers (and soon to be rear speakers when I figure out the problem) only plays at half the output as they used to under my Excelon headunit. Apparently, there is a "Power IC" function that needs to be turned off (this cuts the internal amplifier and apparnetly boosts the external amplifier for optimum sound quality. But I don't know how to turn it off...

it sounds kinda bad? well thats called distortion......distortion is bad, it will blow your speakers... if you have the bass and treble all the way up then turn them down.. bass around 1 or 2, and treble around 4-6 or so... whatever you like... turn it all the way up or to a reasonably level til it distorts, and set everything from there... and yes its a good cd player... also if you have stock speakers, replace them and it will be different.. also the cd player isnt realyl 45x4.... no cd player is.. its probably around 12 - 27rms..

make sure you have them wired right.... not the pos wire to the neg connection...etc... an easy way to tell is to fade the speakers and balance and if one side is louder the other then it is wired wrong more than likely...

ok, getting back the 45's and 47's, do they have the headphone jack auxilary plug on either of them? I have a portable dvd player and it would be bomb to hook it up to my system in teh car. The PSP would sound tight too!

Yota, turning that power ic function off is not going to help you, you have a different problem. It just turns off the internal amp so that it has more power to send a cleaner signal to the amp, so you get better sound quality... i tried it with mine off, but i did not notice a difference. I turned it back on because i use it to run my attenuated rears. If i were you i would check the wiring to the speakers, make sure they are in phase, and make sure the crossovers in the HU are turned off for now, until you can figure out what the problem is and fix it.
