I'm trying to change crossmembers in my Celi, but now I'm horribly stuck after trying to get the crossmember out for a good couple hours.
I got the bolts out of the front and rear mounts, and loosened up everything on the crossmember. In the attempt to get the rear tranny mount to move up so that the bolts on it would clear the crossmember, the mount got twisted sideways and is now completely stuck. I tried everything, but nothing seems to work to get it loose. ![]() Here's some pics: Anyone got any ideas? By the way, if my new crossmember and mounts don't bolt up, I think I'm gonna torch the Yelli Celi. I absolutely HATE the mechanical aspect of working on cars.

I'd say to loosen another mount, or take another off, and then lift the engine with a jack. Keep pulling of mounts and lifting the engine till it frees up. Good luck man.

put a floor jack under the tranny and jack it up. that should give you more room to move that mount...
if that dont work. then you will need to unbolt the other crossmember (the one that geos left to right) to give more room for that mount to come out. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I already unbolted all three tranny mounts and jacked up the tranny a bit, but the mount does not seem to budge.
Supersprynt said that I should try to get the bracket off of the tranny. I think I'll try that soon if I can find time. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

QUOTE(Jeremy1210 @ Apr 3, 2005 - 7:59 PM) off the question, but why are you changing your crossmembers? I used to have a solid(literally...we're talking .625"-thick steel welded to the crossmember) motor mount, but I'm sick of the rattles every time I start from a stop. So I'm going to put in softer mounts. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

coomer, looking at your pic again... it seems like you are just trying to take the mount out. that aint going to happen. you have to unblot the front mount and and the 2 bolts (12mm i think) that connect the crossmember to the front of the car. then loosen the rear mount (like you did in the pic) and take the whole bar out with the mount on it. use a jack under the tranny if you need to create more room. just remember to have the left and right motor mounts on the car.
if that still dosnt work, then have to drop the 2nd crossmember that the mount rests on.. its about 4 bolts on each side. make sure you have a floor jack under it, so that you can control how far down it drops. its very heavy and if you get it off center, it can be a bitch to lign up correctly. Whats happening is the mount is being seperated, the rubber and the actual mount. I suggested take the mount off the tranny, or at least take 1 bolt off the tranny so that it can swivel. I think he's got it jacked up pretty far already.

Art,
I already took off the front two bolts on the crossmember and was manuvering it around attempting to get it out, but it can't possible come out with the rubber part of the mount still attached to it, because it can't move forward far enough to clear the mount bracket which bolts to the tranny. I had the crossmember so close to being free of the mount(one end of one bolt was probably stuck in the hole by a couple mm), but couldn't get it out. So we tried manuvering it more and that didn't work. Then I unbolted the top tranny mount and jacked the tranny up a bit. Then we tried manuvering the mount and got it stuck. At this point, even if I could get the crossmember out, I've still got the rubber part of the mount stuck inside the bracket, and I can't figure out a way to get it out of there. ![]() And no, I don't have an engine hoist. This is exactly what I had to do, you have to take out the 3 bolts on each side and slowly lower the rack, with a jack. The reason you have to drop it is that the cross member hits on it and wont come out unless you drop this. |

Does it mess up the alignment or anything to lower that horizontal crossmember?

no, your tirerods have to do with alignment. just drop that side to side crossmember and have a jack under it...that will give you enought room to take that mount out. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I decided that since we broke the rear mount attempting to manuever it out, I'd just cut off the bolts on the mount.
So I busted out the sawzall. ![]() Then I got to work under the car...after a few minutes I had the mount and crossmember out. Here's the remains of the mount.

The new mount will not be broken and twisted sideways, so it'll go straight up into the bracket so I can put the bolt in, then I can slide the crossmember in and lower the tranny and bolt it all to the horizontal crossmember. ![]() QUOTE(Drocay @ Apr 5, 2005 - 12:35 AM) wow, coomer u butchered it. Yep, it was the only way I could get it out without removing the horizontal crossmember or power steering rack since it had twisted diagonally. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

do you know if that is the same mount as the 5sfe mounts? cause if you have and extra front and rear mount laying around, i think i know a guy that you can mail them to and he can make polyureathane inserts for our cars out of those.

I don't know...I could make my own polyurethane mounts though...there are several how-tos on how to do it yourself.
