How do you drive daily and how do you drive when you drive aggressive?

eg. what rpm do you get to before shifting, and general style of driving.

also how often would you drive 'aggressively'

Daily Driving: I usually try and keep the car between 2k-3k rpm, usually shifting up at 3k and shifting down when it hits 2k. I am for smooth gear shifts and smooth, easy braking.

Aggressive: usually shift up between 3.5k and 4.5k rpm sometimes getting up to 5k changing gears as quick as I can and breaking late and harder that usual.

I don't drive aggressively too often, usually when I am mad at someone or if someone cut me off etc.

well i have an auto and like you i drive calmly under normal circumstances(except i do get high up in speed, lol) and when im mad i floor it and the tranny shifts right at redline in every gear

i usually go out driving(hard driving with two of my friends adding about 400 more lbs) on friday and saturday nights just for the hell of it and that's why i get about 27mpg all in the city

I myself drive aggressive yet very cautious at the same time. (if that makes any sense) South Florida has a bad rep for having some of the worst drivers. You always have to watch your ass when driving due to too many old and foreign people who should not hold a valid license. frown.gif

For daily driving, I usually shift at 3,000 rpm. My shifting varies depending on just how aggressive I'm driving though. wink.gif

daily driving I shift at 3-3.5k and agressive is 4-4.5k

either way I try to shift as quickly as possible, probably what killed my clutch, but ah well you only live once.

4k just feels natural...like you're getting enough power from each gear.

i usually shift around 3.5... sometimes 4, agressive for me is around 5. word of warning, dont redline or 5.5+ like the @$$ clown who had my car before me, it causes lots of valve problems... im feeling this the hard way.

For normal daily 'round town' driving I shift at about 4K, however during quick agressive driving, or when a I need to make a point smile.gif it's usually round the 6200 mark.

I usually shift at pretty low RPM's when im just crusin....like betwen 3-3.5 maybe. But in aggresive driving or when i gotta try and shake some a$$ thats on my tail, i shift it around 4.5-5 max. Any higher and i dont think that the engine would appreciate it much....

And Jeremy 1210..you can hit 85 when youre in third??? i would be at like 3k in 5th if i was doing 85....lol. The other day i was on I-80 with a friend of mine, and i was about to pass a truck really quick.....i could feel the powerband at around 3k pulling hard, so i gunned it- i really wish i had a 6th gear cuz the damn thing gets pissed at 80.....kinda like old people biggrin.gif

unfortunately for me i have an auto. i also have a very heavy foot. when im just out i tend to stay reasonable especially when there is a few other people with me. when im pissed my car hates me , the pedal is on the floor and it redlines every gear. i like to scare people too because the car handles so well i can take corners pretty fast and weave through traffic like a hot knife through butter. i used to scare the sh*t out of my ex-gf when she would piss me off. its great when you know you have total control of the car and the passenger is making a mess of their pants.

My "normal driving" is then i shift about 4.5 rpm, aggressive driving - always on the redline. Then cruising normaly i just put a 2 gear, take a foot of the gas pedal and let the celi to roll by itself...

I am slightly surprised that on average you guys shift at 4K-5K when aggresive driving.

Daily Driving shift around 3k (Try to save money on petrol, UK prices are scandalous! mad.gif )

Aggressive driving shift around 6K+, i have gone more hit the rev limiter alot to! rolleyes.gif (Need to get a shift light fitted!!! wink.gif )

I have the 3SGE engine if that makes a differance. wink.gif

With the 16 valve engines you dont really find any pulling power untill youve hit 4K rpm.

bowdown.gif You are right - any pulling power till 4k, and the peak power on 7A-FE (dont know for 3S-GE) is on 5.3K rpm

With Passengers: shift at 3-3.5k, at most 80% throttle

Alone: shift at 4-4.5k, around 90-100% throttle heel/toe(actually, the side of the foot/toe, but same thing really)

Having fun/aggressive: 6-6.2k, WOT, heel/toe

I don't really care if my engine starts to give. It's got 185,000 miles on it, and I'm already planning a replacement for it either this winter or next spring(3SGTE, finally decided I wouldn't be happy with the 4AGZE for long). It gets Castrol Syntec 5W-30 and a new K&N oil filter every 3000, plus tune-ups and new parts as needed(plugs, wires and such, anything major and it will just get a new engine).

I try to drive non aggressively unless I have clear road
ahead of me but driving a GT4 seems to attract the worst in
others around me. Every traffic light brings some one
outta the woodwork who wants to challenge me or cut me up. Thats ok to begin with but it gets pretty tiresome and
it kinda drags you down to their bad driving habits.

I'm gonna do a "Macaveley" here and pull out my toyota manual figures on max speeds not to exceed for each gear biggrin.gif

3sgte - 1st (30mph max), 2nd (53mph), 3rd(82mph),
4th( 112mph)

3sge (add 3mph to above figures)
3SFE (same as 3sge except 3rd -86mph, 4th -110mph)

If your hitting any of these figures your driving "aggressively"

Almost all my driving consists of the 10 miles to and from med school everyday... usually I'm always late going to school, so while I'll shift at about 3-3.3k rpm normally, if I see a light about to turn green or yellow, I'll go up to 4-4.3k...most of my aggressiveness is passing people by going in incoming lanes (I always make sure there's 0 chance of any incoming traffic coming at me) and taking turns fast (the route to school is basically a zig zag)...kind of hard w/ my crap 14" tires, they're always skidding...
